Manchester United to sign AC Milan midfielder Nigel De Jong

English Premier League transfer News

Sitting 5 points adrift of the 5th place Liverpool in the Premier League table after inflicting misery to their fierce rivals last weekend, it is difficult to find out the liabilities that exist in the current Manchester United squad.

Starting the season with a shock defeat at Swansea before really get going, Manchester United now looks destined to return into the Champions League next season. And while they are looking in pole position to get back into Europe’s elite competition, the Red devils have already started concluding deals in order to strengthen their bid to go far in the competition.

And while their defensive issues has been much debated about, lack of a quality defensive midfielder has been the major problem for Manchester United this season. While Daley Blind has tried his level best to succeed in that role, the physical nature of the Premier League hasn’t allowed him to settle easily.

Moreover, the infusion of injuries to the Manchester United team have also done little to lessen the problems of Louis Van Gaal.

However, just like a tailor-made player who has been in this league before and understands it more than any other, Nigel De Jong has been linked heavily with the Red devils since the start of this season. Playing under the tutelage of Louis Van Gaal for the Dutch National side, De Jong might get a re-union with Van Gaal in the summer transfer window, if reports coming out are believed to be true.

While they paid heavily for acquiring players in the first season of their new manager, Nigel De Jong will come free as he is running out of contract this summer.

Moving from the other half of Manchester in the summer of 2012 to seek more first team action, the coaching troubles at AC Milan hasn’t helped the Dutchman to epitomize his game.

And with AC Milan yet to offer him a new contract, it looks more than likely that De Jong will be soon looking for options. While his age might be a factor as he will turn 31 this year, his fitness cannot be called into question looking at his form for AC Milan.

While Manchester United are not the only club who are after his signature as fellow Italian giants Juventus are also interested, the Dutchman prefers a move to England with Manchester United as his next destination.
