Barclays Premier League: 4 players that can turn Manchester City into title contenders next season

Manchester City transfer Rumors

For a team that is so used to competing for the title in the last few years, this season has proved to be catastrophic for Manchester City. With 6 games remaining and nothing but a top 4 spot to pay for, questions should be asked of Manuel Pellegrini about the demise of form from his team. While the defeat in the Manchester derby was a headline moment, Manchester City had, much worst days this season. However, instead of applying the panic button and sacking people, Manchester City ownership should generate funds to attract more talent next season.

Here are 4 players Manchester City should sign in the summer transfer window: –

Paul Pogba

Currently one of the hottest prospects playing in Italy, Pogba has every technique in his book to succeed at the English soil. While he left the Premier League distraught a few seasons ago, his return would be as celebrated as anything if he decides to come back.

With 7 goals already from that attacking midfield role ahead of the likes of Andrea Pirlo and Claudio Marchisio in the Juventus midfield, the physical presence of the Italian catalyzed by his ability to score important goals has made him an in-dispensable talent for the reigning Italian Champions.

While he would better any team in which he goes, Manchester City – after the decline of Yaya Toure, need another midfielder of his breed. And with Pogba ticking all the right boxes, Manchester City should lure him to the Etihad Stadium at any expense.

Mats Hummels

For a player whose form was called into question at the start of this season as Borussia Dortmund were suffering, the importance of him for the German team can be epitomized by the last 4 months. While his form came back along with his ability to reign his forces, Dortmund saw a magical up-turn in their form.

While his ability of defending is a household story in England, it is his leadership qualities that will spur any team in the World. At a time when the leadership qualities of the Belgian Vincent Kompany are deteriorating along with his form, Manchester City need a defender as commanding as the Belgian.

Even though they spent an outrageous amount of Eliaquim Mangala last season, Mangala is more of a potential buy then an immediate success for Manchester City this season. However, with Hummels, they will get a World-class defender who has an experience of playing for big games before. While he is the current World Champions with Germany, Hummels is a twice Bundesliga winner with Borussia Dortmund.

Thus, with his career resume glittering, he would be an instant first team-member for the Citizens.

Pedro

For a player who is unsure about his future at the Camp Nou, Pedro has already attracted interest from top teams around Europe. At 27 years of age, Pedro has all but refused to be a utility player for the Camp Nou giants this season. And with Luis Suarez banging goals for fun alongside the un-droppables in Neymar and Messi, the Barcelona career of the Spaniard looks all set to be over in the coming months.

Talking about Manchester City and finding a position where Pedro would best fit in, his usual left flank position might help the stuttering Citizens. While he has made 29 appearances this season for Barcelona in the League – most of which came from the bench, Pedro has managed a decent 5 goals to his name.

Thus, while he may not be the star-studding signing which every fan will enamor, the usefulness of the Spaniard will certainly help Aguero and Co. in achieving their goals.

Edinson Cavani

With the departures of Eden Dzeko and Stevan Jovetic imminent from Manchester City this summer in a grand mass-exodus, Manchester City will be forced to consult with their coffers to lure a good striker in the summer. That in itself means that just after 6-months of spending a sizable amount on Bony, Manchester City will go – willingly or unwillingly – in the transfer window to get another striker.

At an age where World-class strikers are rare, Edinson Cavani is a veteran striker that has the ability to emulate the performances of Sergio Aguero for Manchester City. With loads of years of playing top flight football under his belt, Cavani has a trophy cabinet that looks meager, for his standard.

Thus, while Manchester City would be highly benefitted by his arrival, Cavani would have a chance to showcase his abilities in the most watched league in the World.
