NBA Rumors: Greg Monroe will most likely join the New York Knicks in the offseason

Basketball, NBA Rumors:

The New York Knicks have been horrible throughout the current season, and it’s no secret that they will try and get a better player in the offseason. They will try and lure Marc Gasol or LaMarcus Aldridge, but it’s quite unlikely that any of them will leave their current team. However, Greg Monroe of the Detroit Pistons will most likely be available. The Detroit Pistons haven’t been good in this campaign, and it won’t be a surprise if the big man chooses to sign with a different team during the summer.

There have been numerous reports that Monroe is going to be snatched by the Knicks in the offseason, and the latest one states the following:

“Maybe the worst kept secret in the NBA is that Phil Jackson plans to pursue Detroit Pistons forward Greg Monroe in free agency this summer. In fact, one league executive called it “about as close to a done deal as you can get.”

Nevertheless, it won’t be that easy for New York to acquire the big man, as he is pursued by a number of other teams too. The Los Angeles Lakers have also shown a lot of interested in Monroe, but currently they are behind the Knicks when it comes to which franchise is closer to signing the future free-agent. The big man has averaged 16.1 points and 10.5 rebounds per game this season for the Pistons and has shown signs that he can do much more than that.

If the New York Knicks find a way actually to sign him, that will be a huge step towards a better future for the team. Monroe is a very talented big man that will surely attract other players to join the Knicks.
