Report: Manchester United have tabled an opening bid for Mats Hummels

Manchester United Transfer News

According to reports coming out from the enamored German Paper Bild, Manchester United have initiated their summer plans ahead of schedule. While the climax of this season of the Premier League is still a month away, the Red devils have started their efforts in order to fortify their team for next season. And there is no guesses as to which department they are going to strengthen first as the main priority of Louis Van Gaal would be to add steel among his defense for next season.

And while this may not come as a surprise if you are following the news from the last 6 months, Manchester United have tabled an opening bid to start formal talks with a scathed Borussia Dortmund side. While they may still be reeling from the sudden announcement of Jurgen Klopp to leave, the German giants may well have to cope with the absence of Mats Hummels from next season.

Having earned 30 International caps for Germany which includes trips to the UEFA EURO 2012 and the successful campaign of FIFA World Cup 2014, Hummels is a veteran when it comes to defending. While he joined Borussia Dortmund on loan in the 2008-09 season before making his move permanent the next year, the German might well leave alongside his boss to test his luck at the English soil.

However, unlike his manager Jurgen Klopp who looks set to choose between Liverpool or Manchester City, it is Old Trafford that looks as the most likely destination for the German from next season.

And understanding the gravity of the situation and the tug-of-war contest that would arise for the German’s signature in the summer, Manchester United have already started efforts in order to lure him to England. Their first formal offer for the German is in the region of 30-million-euros, however for Dortmund who are famous for playing hard-ball in the case of Gotze and Lewandowski, they won’t be accepting a bid lower than 40-million-euros for Hummels.

Being under contract with the Signal Iduna Park residents till 2017, there is looking no possibility that Hummels would honors his contract for that long. Infact, with a poor season in terms of form under his belt, the departure of Jurgen Klopp might become the stamping ticket on his decision to leave Dortmund at the end of this season.
