Manchester United 4-2 Manchester City: 5 things we learned

English Premier League Match Review

The best they have played since the departure of Sir Alex, if something could explain the performance of Manchester United from today, the former sentence should be it. Defeating Tottenham was necessary, winning at Liverpool was palatable, and however, there is nothing better in this world to silence your noisy neighbors at your terms. With a win today, Manchester United have no place to look but above, however, as far as Manchester City is concerned, they will look more into the teams that are standing below them in the table.

Here are the 5 things we learned as the Red devils marched towards victory: –

Manchester United epitomized their form with a come-back

When Sergio Aguero had put the ball into the back of the net as a result of a move that can be associated to last year’s title winning run for Manchester City, Manchester United were suddenly put into a predicament. While they have won against Liverpool and Tottenham cruising their way, this was a match in which they had to comeback, and they did exactly that in some fashion. From that Ashley Young goal that could be classified as a fine piece of luck, there were only going to be one winners at the Old Trafford.

Old Trafford is getting used to big wins again!

While you would expect any crowd to be buzzing after they win the match, the belief of Manchester United supporters in their team could be epitomized from that Ashley Young goal. While they had just come into the game on level terms, the roar from the Old Trafford faithful indicated the sense of belief they had in the 11 playing down below them. And with Old Trafford turning out to be a fortress of wins once again for the home side, Manchester United would most definitely welcome Champions League at their home turf next season.

Ashley Young has been in the best form of his life in Manchester United colors

One half of the Downing-Young partnership that prospered at Aston Villa in the first decade of 21st century, Ashley Young hadn’t performed at the level with which he was associated at the Villa park. He showed signs of brilliance but mostly there was a streamline journey below average for the English winger at Old Trafford.

That was until Louis Van Gaal came into the helm and denounced conventional thoughts about Young. While he works his best when he works on the right flank, Van Gaal has given him the confidence, belief, and most importantly game time to showcase his skills. And while today’s performance is a headline-earner for Young, he is turning out to be one hell of a player for Manchester United this season.

Manuel Pellegrini is out of options

If last season you would have asked the Chilean about his thoughts on Kompany, his diction of the language might have come short of singing the praise of the Belgian. However, just after 45 minutes at the Old Trafford and Manchester City in with a fighting chance to come back, the decision to substitute Vincent Kompany cannot be comprehended easily.

Even though Kompany is out of form of late, Manchester City certainly don’t have the resources on the bench to replace. That is to say, that after spending 327million pounds since the Arab consortium took-over, there is not a single player on the bench to replace Vincent Kompany on field. While Eliaquim Mangala was the one who was substituted in, the Frenchman did nothing to justify his lofty price tag.

Thus, with Manuel Pellegrini running out of options and out of time at the same time, he might be the first one to leave the Etihad Stadium at the end of this season.

Brendan Rodgers can add salt to the wounds of Manchester City

While 7-points is a distance that seems outrageous, to say the least, Liverpool, with their win at Newcastle can emaciate it to 4 points on Monday night. And with the Red just had to play Chelsea out of those in the top 7, the Reds have every chance, that is there in the book, to mount a serious challenge for the top 4 spot. Thus, even with two season derailing wins, recent defeats of Manchester City have thrust the Reds back into limelight once again.
