Soccer News: Luka Modric out 5 to 6 weeks due to knee sprain, Real Madrid title hopes in jeopardy

Soccer News and Rumors:

Everything was falling into place once again for Real Madrid, as they were able to recover from the mini-slump they were into and began playing as they usually do. Nevertheless, we can soon see them struggle once again. The Whites were able to defeat Malaga on Saturday with a 3:1 score, but Luka Modric was lost to injury. The Croatian had just healed from the previous injury he suffered and was starting to find his rhythm on the pitch.

For Modric this is one of his worst seasons, as he has been forced to sit on the sidelines for four months due to a thigh injury and now he will once again be unable to participate in Real Madrid’s matches. His replacement, Isco, did a very good job during the Croatian’s four-month absence, but the Spaniard’s passing range and vision are nowhere near Modric’s. Isco is definitely faster but doesn’t have the ability to control the pace of the game as good as his teammate.

The presence of Modric on the pitch was immediately felt after he returned from his thigh injury, as Real Madrid started playing more organized both on offense and defense. The Whites were looking like favorites to defeat Atletico Madrid in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-final after the scoreless draw at the Vicente Calderon, but after this injury to Modric, things aren’t exactly the same. The Croatian was one of the main reasons why Real Madrid played so good against their city rivals because he controlled the tempo of the game and made all the right passes.

Isco is definitely a very good replacement, and he has been in terrific form lately, but as we mentioned above, Modric is the player with better vision and passing abilities. Real Madrid will need the Croatian midfielder back as soon as possible if they wish to remain in the title race in Primera Division and the UEFA Champions League.
