NBA News: Goran Dragic opts out of his contract, uncertainty whether he will re-sign with the Heat

Basketball, NBA News:

When the Miami Heat was able to get Goran Dragic during the season, it was a huge success. Everyone started talking how Miami has become a legitimate title contender with their new point guard and how he will be a big part of their future. However, things didn’t go exactly as planned. Chris Bosh missed the last months of the season due to blood clots and, as a result, the Heat couldn’t retain their playoff position. Furthermore, it has been recently reported that Goran Dragic has opted out and will become a free agent in July.

Even though a lot of experts think that the Slovenian will return to the Heat during the off-season, it’s definitely not a sure thing. Miami is still the biggest favorite to sign him to a multi-year deal, but they will have to compete with every other franchise from the NBA. On Thursday, Dragic made a comment regarding the fact that he is opting out:

“I had a great time here in Miami. I want to come back, but we’ll see what happens.”

This statement hints that he would like to return to Miami, but if there is some kind of better offer, he may consider it. Dragic will surely be one of the most wanted players during this year’s offseason, and, even though, the Heat may have a bit of an advantage, they will still have to offer him a pretty good contract.

If the Slovenian point guard decides to return to Miami, the team will surely be one of the better teams in the East next season. Dwyane Wade and a healthy Chris Bosh will still be the main players in the squad for the next couple of years, but Dragic will definitely have a very important role. Furthermore, it is expected that the developing Hassan Whiteside will be even better in the next campaign.
