Arsene Wenger Vs Jurgen Klopp: Who should Arsenal have at the Emirates next season

Arsenal News

Currently preparing themselves for what would be a 2nd successive FA Cup final for Arsenal, Arsene Wenger might have flinched a muscle when he heard this news. Residing at 2nd place in the League and chasing another trophy in a matter of 2 years, Arsene Wenger seems the ideal candidate to continue at the Emirates.

However, while things change quickly in blink of an eye, the news of Jurgen Klopp quitting his role at the Signal Iduna Park at the end of this season has inadvertently brought the role of Arsene Wenger in question once again.

Talking about the odds and although they have no say whatsoever in the next destination of the German, Arsenal are at 6/1 when it comes to the probability of hiring Jurgen Klopp next season. And while many other teams of the caliber of Manchester City and Real Madrid might poke their leg, the Gunners are the 3rd most favorite team for the bookies in this matter.

Looking at the career of Jurgen Klopp at Dortmund and while it isn’t that big, there can be many similarities attached between his and Arsene Wenger’s tenure. While Klopp doesn’t have an invincible-tag associated with him, he has been a victim of the same exodus of star players with which Arsene Wenger have gone through for the past decade.

Nurturing players like Mario Gotze and Robert Lewandowski at the helm both of whom eventually joined the Bavarian giants and bitter rivals Bayern Munich, Klopp’s story seems similar to Arsene Wenger. With Cesc Fabregas and Robin Van Persie playing for rival teams, Arsene Wenger might share a year or two with the German in this context.

However, there are a large number of differences between both the managers. Being a Frenchman and bringing in players mostly from France, Wenger’s theory lies perpendicular to that of Klopp who favors to nourish the German talent. And while his pre-Arsenal career seems dim and glim, it was the role of Jurgen Klopp at the 2nd tier side FSV Maines that earned him the Dortmund job in 2008.

Jurgen Klopp has been a victim of the same disease of the mass exodus of star players for bitter rivals which has plagued the Emirates for the last decade

Having started his managerial career in 2001 with the German team FSV Maines in the 2nd tier of German football, Klopp wasn’t the same angry young man back then as he is now. He led Maines to their first appearances in the Bundesliga and secured a UEFA Cup promotion. However, looking at the lowest point of his managerial career till date, Maines were relegated and Klopp eventually left the club a year later.

Taking a look at his recruiting policy since taking in-charge at Dortmund, Klopp always had a knack of brilliant young players at the helm. While the Borussia Dortmund academy did its best to supply young recruits, players of the likes of Sahin, Bender, Lewandowski, and Kagawa were recruited due to the hindsight of the German.

Thus, with a limited amount of cash and a vast amount of experience, Klopp lead Dortmund to 2 successive titles in 2 seasons.

Conclusion

While it is up-to the Arsenal board of where they want to go in the summer, Jurgen Klopp would certainly lead Arsenal towards a new dimension. With his theatric displays, bonding with the players and a transfer policy that aligns well with that of Arsenal, Klopp would be an ideal candidate to replace Arsene Wenger.

Having said that, the late season form of Arsenal catalyzed by their FA Cup journey will make a strong case for Wenger to get a new contract.
