NBA News: Kevin Durant not too happy from Scott Brooks' firing

Basketball, NBA News:

The firing of Scott Brooks by the Oklahoma City Thunder was announced on Wednesday, and it was a decision that shocked a lot of people following the NBA. Brooks spent seven years coaching the Thunder, leading the team to the playoffs five times. There were a lot of questions whether he was the right man for the job in the previous years, and it seems that finally we will receive the answer to that.

Furthermore, as a lot of people were surprised, a lot other were pretty disappointed in the OKC management. One of those persons that were disappointed was Kevin Durant.

“Today was tough for me. While I support our team’s decision 100 percent and look forward to the upcoming season and the future in OKC, Scotty was my coach and a friend for the past 7 seasons. We accomplished a lot together, and those times will never be taken away from us. I grew as both a man and a ball player under his guidance and for that I will forever be grateful. I wish nothing but the best for him and his family who have also been such a big part of this city and organization. I know he will be very successful in wherever his next steps in life are.”

It will be very interesting to see whether Brooks’ firing will affect Kevin Durant’s or Russell Westbrook’s decision when they become free-agents. Furthermore, it had been reported that the Thunder management hadn’t consulted their players before they had made their decision about Brooks.

A lot can be said whether Scott Brooks was actually the right man for the job. On one hand, we can say that he impressively handed Durant and Westbrook and made them the players they are today. On the other hand, even with such players on his roster, the Thunder made just one trip to the Finals in 2012, losing to the Heat.

The firing of Brooks was definitely just one of the series of moves that the Thunder will make during the upcoming free-agency. Nevertheless, it’s not quite clear whether the dismissal of the coach was a positive thing regarding the re-signing of Durant. Only time will tell if it has been a good thing or not.
