Champions League: Can Real Madrid finally defeat Atletico Madrid this season?

Soccer, UEFA Champions League News:

Just when everybody thought that Real Madrid has finally emerged from their slump, they will have to face their biggest nemesis from this season. Furthermore, it won’t be just a match from La Liga, it will be arguably the most important one from their season so far. In the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, Los Blancos will visit their city rivals at the Vicente Calderon on Tuesday, in a match that promises to be a spectacle. Diego Simeone and his men will be highly motivated to continue their hot streak against Real Madrid and also avenge their defeat from last year’s tournament final. On the other hand, the squad led by Carlo Ancelotti will do everything to recover their pride after suffering four losses and two defeats by Atletico during this campaign.

It will definitely be a very interesting match to watch, as Atletico has been the only team since a long time age that has made Real Madrid look helpless on the pitch. In their last visit at the Vicente Calderon, Cristiano Ronaldo and company were devastated by their opponents and lost with the mind-blowing score of 4:0. It’s highly doubtful that we will see a similar score on Tuesday, but it just gives you the idea how good Diego Simeone’s team is.

However, Real Madrid is looking quite better before this game. The Whites have been able to show some pretty good form lately, beating up three consecutive opponents in La Liga and reducing Barcelona’s lead in the league table. On the other hand, Atletico wasn’t able to defeat Malaga and the game between the two teams ended as a draw. Nevertheless, nobody should doubt the fact that Diego Simeone will motivate his players to give their maximum against the Real Madrid.

Injured players have returned for both teams, and it seems that Ancelotti and Simeone will be able to use their best lineups. Pepe played in Real’s last La Liga match, and Bale is expected to be fully ready to play on Tuesday, after missing the game against Eibar. Mario Mandzukic has also recovered from his injury and will be available for the Champions League match. Raul Garcia from Atletico is the only player that is still to be examined and determined whether he will play or not.

To talk about tactics is a bit useless, in my opinion, as the winner of this game will be determined by motivation, more than anything else. Both teams know each other pretty well, especially after meeting six times in the current season. If Real Madrid wishes to snap their negative streak against Atletico Madrid, they will have to play more motivated than ever and defend the World Champion crest they carry on their shirts. My prediction is that the Whites will finally find a way to defeat Atletico, but it is going to be more than hard to do it.
