Women EHF Champions League: Vardar demolish Gyori and Baia Mare epic comeback

Women EHF CHampions League:

Today on schedule were three games of quarter-finals from women EHF Champions League.

Thüringen HC (GER) vs. Larvik (NOR) 26 – 29 (11 – 14)

At the end of this game Larvik win with only 3 goals lead, even they could win by far more. Larvik controlled the game from the start, taking the lead but Thüringen didn’t allow guests to get some big lead. For home side Mietzner and Schmelzer scored 5 goals each while Mork was unstoppable for Larvik with 12 goals.

HCM Baia Mare (ROU) vs. Dinamo-Sinara (RUS) 25 – 23 (11 – 12)

Coach for Romania team Baia Mare before this game said if they want to go on final four then they need to be focused for whole 60 minutes of the game. Romania team surprise Russia giants and they have 2 goals lead before the return game. Dinamo was leading during the most part of the game thanks to Kochetova and Akopian who were scoring and Sedoykina who end with 40% saves in this game. Crucial point of the game was time-out for home team at the score 22-23 for Dinamo-Sinara. In the last 49 seconds Marin, Nascimento and Lobach each scored one goal and made an epic comeback. Lobach scored 5 goals, Abbing, Nascimento and Marin scored 4 each for home team. For Dinamo Kochetova scored 7 and Akopian scored 6 goals.

WHC Vardar SCBT vs. Gyori Audi ETO KC 24 – 18 (14 – 10)

Vardar and Gyori game was most anticipating game of this quarter-final round. Last year 3rd team on Final Four was going against defending champions and nobody expect that they will beat them with six goals difference. Vardar is not 100% sure, because we saw many times about big comebacks and Gyori is a team that is definitely able to get a huge comeback. Vardar was better team during the game, they took the early lead 6-2 and they keep it until the end. Probably the key moment was double save from Vardar goalkeeper Leynaud when the score was 19-15 for Vardar. She first saved 7m shot and then rebound, in that period Gyori was a better team and if they scored they would probably quick equalize the score. But with that save and Radicevic goal Vardar quickly manage to go on +6 and to keep it until the end. Radicevic with 7 and Penezic with 5 were the best scorers for home team, Sen with 6 and Aguilar Diaz with 4 was best for Gyori.

The remaining game of quarter-finals between Viborg and Buducnost will play tomorrow. Return games are on scheduled to play in seven days.
