You can draw a line between Spain handball and soccer; both of their national teams are strong and play some major roles in international competition. But their national leagues are different stories in soccer you got Barcelona, Real Madrid and now Atletico Madrid and in handball you used to have Barcelona and Atletico Madrid. After Atletico Madrid “closed the doors” due to financial problems Barcelona is the only force in Spain Liga ASOBAL. So it wasn’t any surprise that Barcelona already secured their title six rounds before the end.
Technically they could still lose the championship but they would have to lose their last 6 games with huge goal difference, if you ask bookers what are the odds that would happen they would say you have bigger odds to win on lottery then that to happen. After Atletico Madrid withdraw from Liga ASOBAL, Naturhouse La Rioja and Ademar Leon supposed to play 2nd teams in Spain. But they are failing to do that, just to show you how Barcelona is dominate in Spain, not only that they got 24 wins from 24 games. They won all games with at least 3 goals lead and even half of them with 10 or more goals lead. If you look at Liga ASOBAL statistic Barcelona scored 943 goals from 24 games or average 39 goals per game and they received 622 goals or average 27 goals per game. But no matter that Barcelona got best attack and defense in Liga ASOBAL they don’t have best scorer. Their best scorer Gudjon Valur Sigurdsson is only 19th on the best scorer list in Liga ASOBAL with 108 goals from 23 games (4,7 average per game). A little better is situation with their goalkeeper Gonzalo Perez de Vargas is on 2nd place and Danijel Saric is on 14th place, but Barcelona goalkeeper are having the best percent of saves 40%.
Barcelona will be going against RK Zagreb in quarter-finals of EHF Velux Champions League and Zagreb coach Veselin Vujovic said that their biggest strength is that Barcelona doesn’t have though games except champion’s league. But no matter that Barcelona is still one of main pretended for EHF Velux Champions League title.
