NBA Rumors: Chicago Bulls thinking about trading Derrick Rose?

Basketball, NBA News:

Derrick Rose is on his way to return from yet another knee surgery, which is his third one since 2012. The point-guard tore his meniscus at the beginning of February and is currently working towards getting back on the court. For the Chicago Bulls, the last three years have been a nightmare, as their star player has been on the shelf for most of the time. Because of Rose’s inability to stay healthy, should the Bulls consider trading him? If they make a step towards that direction, can they get something good in return?

The truth is that the Bulls will most likely love to trade him and get a younger and healthier asset, but it’s hard to think of a franchise that will like to get Rose at this moment. He still has two years left on his contract with Chicago, and he will earn at least $20 million in both of them. With those injuries and this kind of payroll, there is absolutely no team in the NBA that will risk so much.

Derrick Rose is very far away from his MVP form, and it’s quite doubtful that he will ever reach it again. He is not a franchise player anymore, and he definitely doesn’t a max contract. When Rose’s current deal expires it’s going to be a real mess in Chicago, as he and the front office will find it really hard to negotiate a deal. The point-guard has become an unreliable, and inconsistent player and the Bulls’ management is surely not giving him a max contract. This situation is going to be a bit problematic, as it is hard to believe that Rose will accept anything less than a max deal.

However, in my opinion, if Rose doesn’t accept a pay cut, he will not return to Chicago after his current deal expires. The problem is that there isn’t a team in this league that will offer him the kind of money that he currently earns. He is just too much of a risk. It’s sad to acknowledge it, but Rose will never be the same player. If he can just find some consistency and stay healthy, then the Bulls may think of resigning him and pay him big.
