NBA News: Ray Allen officially announces that he will not play this season!

Basketball, NBA News:

The Ray Allen saga has been quite an interesting one, but it seems that the rumors surrounding the veteran player will come to an end. The two-time NBA champion has announced that he will not suit up for any team until the end of this campaign. There were a lot of speculations where the 39-year-old would end up playing, but ultimately he has chosen not to participate in the NBA, at least until the start of the next season.

“Over the past several months, I have taken a lot of time to deliberate what is best for me. I’ve ultimately decided that I will not play this NBA season. I’m going to take the remainder of this season, as well as the upcoming offseason, to reassess my situation, spend time with my family and determine if I will play in the 2015-16 season.”

This announcement makes us think that the basketball career of Ray Allen may finally be over. The veteran guard spent his last two season playing with the Miami Heat, having great success with them , but chose not to remain with the team for the current campaign. It was thought that Allen left Miami because they were no longer contenders after LeBron James departure to Cleveland. Many specialists thought that Ray would sign with a championship contender, but the player has remained a free-agent in 2014-15.

The 10-time All-Star will be at the age 40 next season, but it is doubtful that will stop any team NBA from signing him. Allen is one of those players that are always in great shape and don’t rely much on their physical abilities in order to contribute. The interesting thing is whether the player himself will choose to chase another ring or he will go into retirement.
