Barclays Premier League: How will Arsenal lineup against Newcastle

English Premier League Match Preview

Having been knocked out from the pre-quarter finals of the Champions League in mid-week, Arsenal will be doing their best to put in a hearty performance against the strugglers Newcastle. While they performed brilliantly in the 2nd leg against Monaco, their baggage from the first leg was enough to see Arsenal being eliminated from the competition.

However, with the 2nd position in Premier League up for grabs and a FA Cup Semifinal against the Championship side Reading looking their way, Arsenal have plenty left to play for in the closing stages of this season.

Starting from their match against Newcastle at a time when both Manchester United and Liverpool will go head to head on Sunday, Arsenal can extend their lead at the 3rd spot if Liverpool can get the better of the Red devils at Anfield.

And with Manchester City not in the best of their form recently, Arsenal can go onto the 2nd spot should Manchester City suffer a setback when they will host West Brom in early Saturday’s kickoff. Thus, with the top teams in the table lined up close to each other for the runners up spot, Arsenal can take a huge step by winning in this match to finish in the runners up spot this season.

Talking about the injury factor and although Arsenal have welcomed players from the sidelines in recent weeks, both Gabriel Paulista and Mathieu Debuchy have been ruled out of this match. Thus, the traditional center back pairing of Mertesacker and Koscielny looks set to make its 3rd consecutive start.

Talking about goals and it was assumed that the lack of form of Alexis Sanchez will mean trouble, Arsenal have an un-expected winner in their team in the form of Giroud. Although his goal against Monaco meant nothing at the end, the form of the Frenchman coming into this match keeps him in contention of increasing his goal-tally in this match.

Here is how Arsenal are expected to lineup against Newcastle at the St. James Park: –

Arsenal starting lineup

Ospina – Gibbs – Koscielny – Mertesacker – Bellerin – Coquelin – Ramsey – Ozil – Sanchez – Walcott – Giroud

Newcastle United Vs Arsenal will take place at the St. James Park on Saturday, 21st March.
