Soccer, Primera Division News :
As Iker Casillas isn’t performing on a top level this season, it seems that his days in Real Madrid are numbered. There have been reports that Florentino Perez and the player’s agent have begun negotiations about a deal that will end the goalkeeper’s contract after the current season. Real Madrid will be going after Manchester United’s goalkeeper, David De Gea, and Casillas won’t be needed anymore.
San Iker will be offered €22.5 million to end his current deal with Real Madrid which is until 2018. The reports state that the goalkeeper would receive €8 million for the first year, €7.5 million for the second and €7 million for the third and final year. Furthermore, if Casillas agrees to this scenario, he will receive an additional €3.5 million as a compensation for the years he has spent in Real Madrid.
It will be quite sad to see Casillas leave Real Madrid, as he has become one of the legends of the clubs. However, his recent performances are showing that his best years are behind him, and he is no longer the player he used to be. David De Gea will definitely be an upgrade over Casillas and will provide more stability on the defensive end.
Furthermore, it’s very likely that the current Manchester United goalkeeper will finally push Casillas from the starting spot in Spain’s national team. Both keepers currently share the duties in the national team. However, pretty soon things may change.
Even though it’s hard to acknowledge it, Iker Casillas’ career is coming to an end. It’s very likely that the current season will be his last in Real Madrid. There are a lot of offers from clubs all over the world, but it will be very strange to see San Iker in a different uniform.
