Women EHF Champions League: Vardar against Gyori Audi for place on Final Four in Budapest

EHF Velux Champions League:

This weekend Woman EHF Champions’ League group phase was over and we find out 8 clubs that will battle in quarter-finals for a place in final four that will hold in Budapest on 9 and 10 of May.  From Group A 4 teams that enter quarter-finals are Buducnost, Dinamo-Sinara, Vardar and Thüringen while from Group B we got Larvik, Gyori, HCM Baia Mare and Viborg HK.  Format of quarter-finals is simple; ranking team 1 from one group is playing against ranking team 4 from other group and so on. So the quarter-finals matches are:

04/04/2015 – Thüringen HC vs. Larvik
04/04/2015 – HCM Baia Mare vs. Dinamo-Sinara
05/04/2015 – WHC Vardar SCBT vs. Gyori Audi ETO KC
05/04/2015 – Viborg HK AS vs. Buducnost

In quarter-finals we got two especial interesting games between teams that are by quality almost equal. One is derby game between last year title holder Gyori Audi and probably one of the strongest teams in Europe WHC Vardar. Other interesting games will be between Russian team Dinamo-Sinara and Portuguese HCM Baia Mare. We don’t think that Buducnost against Viborg or Larvik vs. Thüringen aren’t interest games, only that Buducnost and Larvik are far better teams and they should not have any problems going to F4 in Budapest. Larvik is only team that manages to get all 10 wins in group stage of Champions League while Buducnost is one of most powerful teams this season in Europe.

Karolina Kudlacz (HC Leipzig) is now best scorer with 100 goals; Cristina Georgiana Neagu (Buducnost) is second with 82 goals and Anna Kochetova (Dinamo-Sinara) and Andrea Penezic (Vardar) are on third place with 76 goals each. Last year winner Gyori Audi is the team with best attack they scored 282 goals from 10 games (average 28.2 per game). Buducnost is team with best defense they received only 193 goals in 10 games (average 19.3 per game), they are also team with biggest goal difference +77 (270-193). Larvik and Buducnost are only undefeated teams in group phase, but Larvik is only team that manages to get all 10 victories while Buducnost got 9 victories and 1 draw. Most goals scored in one game were between Vardar and Krim Mercator total 71 goals (41-39), while game between Buducnost and Thüringen were one with the lowest goals scored total 37 goals (23-14).
