Barclays Premier League: How will Manchester City lineup against Burnley

English Premier League Match Preview

Ahead of their crucial Champions League tie with FC Barcelona away from home, the reigning Premier League Champions will travel to the turf moor to keep their hopes intact. Realistically speaking, the title race is now out of the hands of the Citizens as they look more towards the ‘’slips’’ of Chelsea in addition to their own fortune. And with Arsenal looking for its 8th consecutive win which will leave them just 1 point short of City courtesy to an early kickoff, Manchester City cannot afford to drop any further points.

Probable Lineup

Here is how they are expected to lineup against Burnley: –

Joe Hart

Last time when both these sides met in the League, Burnley came from 2 goals down to level the match. However, with 17 places and 36 points differentiating the teams this time out, Joe Hart might have a field day against Sean Dyche’s men.

Pablo Zabaleta

Being dropped from the Manchester City squad that saw off relegation threatened Leicester City last week, Zabaleta is expected to take part in this fixture. He will replace Bacary Sagna from the first team 11.

Vincent Kompany

As they say that adversity tests character, Vincent Kompany, allegedly, lost his cool after that defeat against Liverpool which saw him suspended by the Manchester City boss for 1 game altogether. However, with all issues sorted between him and Fernandinho now, the Belgian is expected to take his Captain’s armband back.

Eliaquim Mangala

For a player who has a start full of nerves for his Manchester City career, the former Malaga man is now getting more game time for the blues. He will make his 18th appearance of the season.

Gael Clichy

Even though it was Kolarov last week who started the proceedings for City against Leicester, Clichy is expected to make full use of the rotation policy that Manuel Pellegrini has acquired this season.

Yaya Toure

Being the most influential player for the Citizens for the past 2 seasons, doubts have started to mount over his future with the club. With Roberto Mancini claiming that he wants the Ivorian at Inter next season, Yaya Toure seems unfazed as his performance levels suggests.

David Silva

Even though Liverpool played better than Manchester City a fortnight ago, David Silva was heavily criticized for his misses. Being the playmaker for the Citizens and counted amongst the League’s best any day, Silva has to improve his goal-scoring stats if he wants to be more influential for Manchester City in the future.

Fernando

Getting advantage of the solid effort that he put against Leicester last week, Fernando is expected to get the better of Fernandinho once again to get a place in the Manchester City starting 11.

Samir Nasri

While it was Jesus Navas who earned praise due to his performance a week ago, Samir Nasir, with the form he has acquired of late, might get a call up for this fixture.

Sergio Aguero

At a time when the form of players like Aguero, Sanchez has dipped, Aguero is suffering from the same lack of form which the aforementioned duo is undergoing. Although he has scored 17 goals in 23 appearances this season, 14 of those came in the opening 6 months of this season. However, with 4 goals in the last 5 matches, Aguero is nearing a full comeback to his early season form.

Wilfried Bony

Since signing for Manchester City in the January transfer window, Bony has just made 1 start for the Citizens due to his African Cup of Nations commitments. However, with the Premier League nearing its climax, the Ivorian will get more and more game time now.

Burnley FC Vs Manchester City will take place at the Turf Moor Stadium on Saturday, 14th March.
