Liverpool Vs Manchester United: Probable Lineups, Stats, Team news

English Premier League Match Preview

When the fixture list of the Premier League gets announced every year before the start of the season, these are the sort of fixtures whom fans of both teams look forward to. Last season when both these teams met at this stage of the season, Manchester United were suffering with mediocrity while Liverpool were eyeing something special.

However, for the first time in ages as it seems, both teams have a common goal in a season: of being in the Champions League next season, of being counted amongst the European elite and more importantly, of getting back to their epitome.

Talking about Liverpool and although the Reds have been on a roller coaster ride in 2015, Brendan Rodgers will have to deal with a headache in making his starting 11 for this match. As the saying goes in Liverpool that ‘’you cannot replace Steven Gerrard’’, Rodgers will have to decide whether to include the Liverpool legend in his starting 11 or not.

Talking about Manchester United and although they are sitting 2 points above their fierce rivals Liverpool, the Red devils will be going into this match as the underdogs. While they stunned Tottenham a week ago at home turf, Anfield is an altogether different ball game.

But with Marcos Rojo returning into the squad and Wayne Rooney scoring goals, Manchester United will be eyeing the Pulitzer against Liverpool on Sunday.

Probable Lineups:

While Steven Gerrard played a part in Liverpool’s 1-0 win against Burnley on the Monday night last week, his intrusion into the starting 11 looks difficult. With Lucas Leiva still struggling for full match fitness and Jon Flanagan far from recovery, here is how Liverpool are expected to lineup against Manchester United.

Liverpool Starting lineup:

Mignolet – Sakho – Skrtel – Can – Moreno – Sterling – Lallana – Henderson – Coutinho – Allen – Sturridge

As far as Manchester United are concerned, the return to full match fitness for Marcos Rojo might earn him a place in the starting 11 for the Red devils.

Manchester United Starting lineup:

De Gea – Jones – Smalling – Rojo – Valencia – Carrick – Fellaini – Herrera – Young – Mata – Rooney.

Stats:

• Manchester United has lost just 2 of the 15 games in which Michael Carrick has featured this season.

• If Liverpool can keep a clean-sheet, Simon Mignolet would hold the most number of clean-sheets in the Premier League this season.

• Steven Gerrard has scored 7 goals in his last 11 Premier League appearances against Manchester United.

• Manchester United have won more times at Anfield than any other team in the Premier League history.

• Wayne Rooney hasn’t scored a goal at Anfield since 2005.

Liverpool Vs Manchester United will take place at the Anfield Stadium on Sunday, 22nd March.
