After winning 3 Champions League titles, 7 LA Liga titles and 1 club World Cup medals to his name in his 17 year long and illustrious career at FC Barcelona, Legendary midfielder Xavi Hernandez looks set to say goodbye to the Catalan folklore at the end of this season. While his trophy cabinet might soar in the coming months, Xavi has already made his mind to bid farewell to his Barcelona team-mates according to Spanish Newspaper AS
While he would have opted for this move a year earlier, his move to the middle-east now looks set to be completed in the coming months.
Having played under 10 different managers during his time at FC Barcelona, Xavi has been the most coveted midfielder of the Spanish generation that has won the first World Cup of the history for its nation. Being the better half of the Iniesta-Xavi midfield that won Spain the World Cup, Xavi has been arguably amongst the greats of modern football.
Since making his debut for FC Barcelona senior side in the 1998 season, Xavi Hernandez has played under 10 different managers that tried their luck with the Catalan giants.
From being the holding midfielder in Louis Van Gaal’s side to being the main man in Pep Guardiola’s trickery, Xavi has always been a flag-bearer of FC Barcelona for a better part of the last 2 decades.
However, as everything comes to an end, Xavi Hernandez looks set to depart for Qatar based side Al Sadd in the summer transfer window. Home of the World Cup 2022, Qatar is a nation that has been boasting of their National wealth of late and have acquired top European players in their leagues in the recent years.
While Xavi is the latest addition to their catalogue, the former Real Madrid Captain Raul Gonzalez also played for Al Sadd. Even though he has made up his mind to be in Qatar, Xavi had offers from the MLS but the salary package offered by the Qatar-based club proved to be a major reason for his decision. He is expected to earn a salary of 10million Euros per year.
