NBA News: Durant out indefinitely, OKC's future in trouble?

Basketball, NBA News:

It has been reported that Kevin Durant, the Oklahoma City Thunder superstar could be done for the season. There were statements earlier in the week that Durant is close to returning to full health. However, it seems he is pretty far from being one hundred percent. The superstar hasn’t played a single game since 19th February because of a recurring injury in his foot.

“The goal is to get him back on the court healthy, whenever that is,” Sam Presti, the Thunder’s General Manager announced. “Unless he’s able to be back on the floor without soreness he won’t be back on the floor.”

These are difficult times for the Oklahoma City Thunder, as they have lost yet another year in which they won’t be able to compete for an NBA championship. In the previous two seasons, Russell Westbrook and Serge Ibaka were the injured ones. However, this time it’s Durant.

The injury is definitely a big setback for the whole franchise, as well as for Durant. It makes it even more interesting whether the team’s front office will risk and keep him because recurring foot injuries are a pretty serious thing. I won’t be surprised if Sam Presti tries to trade Durant next season, given the fact that he is now a superstar full of risks.

Furthermore, even if the Thunder doesn’t trade Kevin, it’s very likely that he makes a decision on his own to go somewhere else. Durant is a free-agent in 2016, and a lot of teams are waiting to offer him a huge contract. The Los Angeles Lakers and the New York Knicks will be among those teams, and there is no doubt that the current OKC player will be tempted to go there.

The next season will be quite an interesting one, in terms of whether Durant will be the same player when he returns and will he get traded by the Thunder’s front office. In my opinion, Sam Presti won’t trade him, but it’s possible that Durant himself will choose to leave Oklahoma City.
