The American Major League Soccer seems to be getting more popular with every year, as superstars who wish to continue playing despite their age go there. David Beckham did it, Thierry Henry did it, Frank Lampard did it and Steven Gerrard will do it. There has been a report that Cristiano Ronaldo also wishes to play in the MLS after a couple of years. However, it seems that he wants it to happen a bit sooner than everyone expected – in 2018, after his current with Real Madrid ends.
“File this one for down the road, but multiple sources tell me that Cristiano Ronaldo’s current plan is to come to MLS after he finishes at Real Madrid, with one source saying he would likely arrive on a free transfer in 2018 once his current contract ends. Ronaldo would likely be coming off a World Cup and would be 33 years old, older than David Beckham (32) was when he came to MLS but younger than Frank Lampard (37) or Steven Gerrard (35) will be when they arrive this summer. Ronaldo’s main interest lies in cities you’d probably expect: Miami, Los Angeles and New York.”
Cristiano Ronaldo is currently one of the best, if not the best, players in the world and it’s hard to imagine that in the next three years his form will decline mightily. He is magnificent physically and his work ethic is one of football’s most dedicated one. If he really chooses MLS in 2018, he will be arguably the best player in the league.
Furthermore, he will surely raise the popularity of MLS not only in the USA, but in the whole world. Ronaldo is currently a three-time Ballon d’Or winner and an incredible goal-scorer that will be every team’s best player even if he is 33 years-old.
