EHF Velux Champions League: Kiel, Barcelona, Zagreb, Paris SG and Szeged joined Veszprem, Vive Tauron Kielce and Vardar in quarter-finals

EHF Velux Champions League:

Today we got the remaining five teams that enter quarter-finals for EHF Velux Champions League. After the first games we got some really interesting games. One more thing is that we don’t have any more undefeated teams in EHF Velux Champions League, KS Vive Tauron Kielce finally loss a game against Montpellier 33-31 but even with that loss they manage to go into quarter-finals.

One of most interesting games today was a France derby between Paris Saint-Germain and Dunkerque.  In first game 8 days ago Paris Saint-Germain manages to get 2 goals win (23-21). In a though game PSG was controlling the game from begging but couldn’t get any goal difference. At the end Paris Saint-Germain manage to get one goal win 23-22. Hansen was the best scorer for home side with 8 same as Butto for Dunkerque.

After their first games in which they demolish their opponents, second game for Barcelona and Kiel was just a formality. Barcelona beat Aalborg this time with “only” seven goals difference and with total 60-33 from two games proceeds to quarter-finals. On paper battle of German giants THW Kiel and SG Flensburg-Handewitt supposed to give us two interesting matches but instead we saw totally domination from THW Kiel in both games. Seven days ago they demolish Flensburg-Handewitt at the end it was 9 goals difference (30-21). Today at their venue was the same story only with slight different ending it was +5 not +9 like in first game (33-28). With total score 63-49 THW Kiel go to quarter-finals. Another German giant Rhein-Neckar Lowen was hoping to beat MOL-Pick Szeged and to kick them out. But Balogh and Bombac didn’t think that way and from start lead for Rhein-Neckar Lowen, MOL-PICK Szeged was dominating the rest of the game. At the end second win for MOL-Pick Szeged and with total score 65-59 they go into quarter-finals. KIF Kolding get demolish in first game against Zagreb and only with some quick late game goals they manage to get with -5 (17-22). In second game KIF Kolding was a better team but at the end they only manage to get two goals win, what was not enough for them to go ahead to quarter-finals. RK PPD Zagreb goes into quarter-finals with total score 43-40.

Yesterday MKB-MVM Veszprem, KS Vive Tauron Kielce and HC Vardar secured their spots in quarter-finals. Vardar had the hardest job since they start with -6, but with fanatic supporters behind them they manage to get +9 goals win in second half and to go in quarter-finals.

Quarter-finals draw will take place on Tuesday and it will be team from Pot 1 against team from Pot 2.

Pot 1: THW Kiel, FC Barcelona, MKB-MVM Veszprem and Vive Tauron Kielce
