Ashley Young: Anything less than a win against Liverpool is not acceptable

English Premier League News

Ahead of arguably the most important clash of the season for Manchester United, Ashley Young was seen as fairy confident when asked about his team’s chances of defeating Liverpool at the weekend. While the Reds have been unbeaten in 2015, Ashley Young was unfazed about their form as his recent comments suggests.

After being eradicated from the FA Cup last week courtesy to a defeat from fierce rivals Arsenal, Manchester United responded in brilliant fashion at the weekend. With a 3-0 defeat against Tottenham, Manchester United have started brilliantly in a tough string of games which will see them facing Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea in the coming days.

Although a draw would be enough for Manchester United to keep themselves in the 4th spot, Young concentrated on going for the kill against fierce rivals Liverpool when the two teams will meet on the weekend. Having shared 38 league titles and 8 European titles between them, both Manchester United and Liverpool have both fallen from the epitome in recent years and are struggling to keep up with the European elite.

However, for Young who is eyeing a comeback in the Champions League with Manchester United after two years, history will be laid to rest once the final whistle will be blown at Anfield.

“We will go there looking for the three points, We are going there to win, you don’t go to a place to try and draw.

The performance against Tottenham was brilliant but we have a tough game coming up at Liverpool. We have got to dust ourselves down in the right way and go for the three points again.”

Although in recent times Manchester United’s boss has been questioned with the tactics that he has employed, Young was seen defending the Dutchman in his pre-match interview

“Morale has always been high. Confidence has always been there too. We were obviously disappointed after the Arsenal game. I said afterwards that it will show how our team spirit and character is with how we bounce back.

“I think if you look at the first 45 minutes (against Spurs) then that was exactly the right way to bounce back.”

While the gravity of the statements offered by the Englishman is high, the truthfulness of these statements will be enshrined once the final whistle be blown at Anfield on Sunday.
