LA Liga: 4 reasons why Cristiano Ronaldo might join Manchester United in the summer transfer window

LA Liga News

Being angry for the goal he missed rather than the one that his colleague Gareth Bale managed, waving his hands in desperation rather than shaking him with his colleague who just had broken a duck, it will be fair to say that Cristiano Ronaldo wasn’t that happy with ‘’something’’ that was happening on the pitch at the Bernabeau. Pondering upon the reason of his strange behavior, the lack of goals is out of question as coming into this match, he had a brace even though it went in vain.

Talking about the reaction of crowd towards the Real Madrid players in general and Gareth Bale in particular after that defeat to Schalke, Cristiano Ronaldo seemed to have taken the effect of the taunts more fiercely than any of his team-mates.

Therefore, his announcement to snub media till the end of season when blended with his inability to celebrate with Gareth Bale on the latter’s 1st goal in weeks, the recent antics of the Portuguese can be a sign of things to come.

Although Real Madrid are the reigning European and World club Champions, their fans are refusing to rest on the ‘’laurels’’, despite the fact that they are still the reigning Champions of both of these competitions. And amid all this drama that has been unfolding in the Spanish Capital since the dawn of new season, Ronaldo looks hungrier than ever to score despite the fact that he has achieved every possible accolade during his Real Madrid days.

And with Manchester United waiting in the shadows, the current scenario isn’t ideal for Fiorentino Perez to hold his famous asset.

Manchester United have the funds available and they aren’t afraid of splashing them off

Since the departure of Sir Alex and the appointment of Louis Van Gaal last season, Manchester United seemed adamant to get the best out of their resources. While they made occasional big money signings in Mata and Fellaini, their looked a little chance of them acquiring the Portuguese again. However, with things turning faster than ever and Manchester United with a never-ending well of resources beneath them, the dream to bring back Ronaldo might fulfil for the Manchester United folklore.

At 30 years of age and still the best player or arguably the best player on the globe, Ronaldo is still worth bucket-loads of money. However, with a 200million war-chest for Louis Van Gaal, anything could happen should Ronaldo decides it is time to move again.

Champions League is looking closer than ever for Manchester United

Before last season, it was like a written rule that big players around the Europe go to Champions League playing sides. It can be said true of the likes of Liverpool, however, like they have done over the last few decades, Manchester United unearthed the World of football when they announced the signing of Angel Di Maria.

While his last appearance for Real Madrid was in the final of Champions League in which he won the Man of the Match award, his move to Manchester United couldn’t have been less dramatic.

However, with the player of the stature of Ronaldo cannot live without being in the limelight, the news of Manchester United’s recent win over Tottenham would have been a music to his ears. With them playing in the Champions League next season, their approach for the Portuguese – should they make it, would carry more substance than it would have done last season.

Swap deal could also be on the cards

While the situation of swapping De Gea with Ronaldo would seem un-feasible for Manchester United fans, Real Madrid – with their recent history of transfers, can entertain this thought. Swapping Xabi Alonso for Toni Kroos last season to replace substance with style, Real Madrid can be termed as the most opportunistic team on the land.

Looking at their fierce rivals Barcelona and their insistence to keep the prized asset Xavi, it would be easier to concur that Real Madrid got a better deal by getting rid of the veteran midfielder than what Barcelona are reaping by keeping the World Cup winner Xavi.

Looking further forward, it would be difficult for Manchester United to fend off interest from Real Madrid if they came calling for De Gea. With their recent history of luring players, Real Madrid are the worst opponent any team would imagine if it is to protect its player from the clangs.

And looking at the predictability of such a swap deal – which is increasing in odds by the day, it would be better for Real Madrid to give De Gea and ask for Ronaldo than to give De Gea alone. Because, no matter how much money Madrid would pay for De Gea, it would be a sizeable amount and Manchester United, after adding to it, can certainly lure the Portuguese back to the Old Trafford.

History

When you have to look towards the future, seeing it through the prism of past can be beneficial. And as they say that history repeats itself, this statement cannot be more true than on a footballing pitch. Moving our discussion through Real Madrid, the club has a history of selling out players after they had reached their epitome.

Looking at the last decade and having seen players like Zidane, Figo, Roberto Carlos and Ronaldo playing for the LOS BLANCOS, only 1 of them – Zidane – finished his career at the Santiago Bernabeau while all of the rest went elsewhere to seek anew pastures.

Thus, even though the alumni of Real Madrid is one of the most influential in football, many of their recent aluminates departed elsewhere before hanging their boots permanently.
