The Cleveland Cavaliers have been progressing since the beginning of the season and lately they have been in excellent form. LeBron James is back to his MVP level, Kyrie Irving is steadily improving alongside him and the role players are doing what they are expected to. There is only guy that is still a big question mark within the Cavs system. His name is Kevin Love.
The former Minnesota Timberwolves player started the season slow, but everyone thought that his form will improve with time. Nevertheless, things haven’t worked out as planned. Love still hasn’t found a place for himself in Cleveland and because of that he is often sitting on the bench during fourth quarters. The big man has denied the option of being a stretch four, saying that he prefers to be a post-up player. Nevertheless, as he continues to ignore the fact that his game will improve if he accepts the role of a stretch four, he will be often isolated.
Moreover, if these disappearances of Love in the fourth quarter continue, it could seriously affect his decision for the offseason. Let’s not forget that the big man will be a free-agent this summer and if he is denied to play a significant role for the Cavaliers he may choose to leave.
It will be very interesting to see how David Blatt is going to use Love in the playoffs and will he actually lose him a lot? Love is still an excellent player, even though he has looked lost in the Cavaliers system. In my opinion, if he accepts the role of stretch four, his performance will improve and he will be on the floor in late game situations. If he doesn’t – it won’t be much of a surprise to see Love leave Cleveland during the summer.
