NBA News: Steve Nash announces retirement after 18 seasons in the NBA

Basketball, NBA News:

After eighteen seasons in the NBA, Steve Nash has finally announced his retirement. The electrifying point-guard has played for the Dallas Mavericks, Phoenix Suns and Los Angeles Lakers during his amazing career. He couldn’t win a championship with any of those teams, but he will still be remembered as a point-guard that revolutionized the game. He is a two-time regular season MVP, eight-time All-Star, third all-time in assists and first all-time in free-throw percentage. It’s a shame that his career ended this way, as his last two seasons were completely lost due to injuries.

These are the words he wrote, officially announcing his retirement.

“I’m retiring. I heard someone once say there comes a day when they tell us all that we can’t play anymore. We’re not good enough. Surplus to requirements. Too slow, maybe. When you’re a teenager with outsized dreams and a growing obsession, and someone tells you this ain’t gonna last forever, it’s scary. I never forgot it.”

Steve Nash was one of those players that filled up an arena – he was all over the court, he had amazing vision and could shoot from three-point land with ease. He was the architect in Mike D’Antoni’s offense in Phoenix, where he played his best basketball. Nash reached the Western Conference Finals three times with the Suns, however, that was the farthest he went. He has now become one of those all-time greats in NBA that couldn’t get a ring.

“Arguably the greatest jump shooter in NBA history, Nash used that weapon to put pressure on defenses and open up angles for passes to guys like Amar’e Stoudemire and Shawn Marion, it was a devastating offense that Nash and Mike D’Antoni concocted, and we’ll surely never forget Seven Seconds or Less.”

It’s vital that people remember Steve Nash for his magnificent style before he joined the Los Angeles Lakers, because he definitely deserves that. It’s very unlikely that we will see a player like him in the near future, so we should just appreciate what kind of amazing player he was. A maestro on the court, that deserved to win a championship.
