Manchester United 3-0 Tottenham: 3 things we learnt

English Premier League Match Review

Being in the center stage, surrounded by a fixture list that would get the best, or for that matter worst out of them, it seems that Louis Van Gaal’s men have announced themselves to the Premier League 8 months after its inception this season. At a time when everybody tipped them to fall, Manchester United were a combination of epitome, chutzpah and most importantly, a gelled unit with everyone playing for the team.

Here are 3 things that we learnt: –

Manchester United made their unbeaten streak count

If you have asked Manchester United fans before that match against Arsenal that a win there or against Tottenham, a majority of them would have gone for the former. However, in the long-run with Champions League as a prize to be won, this fixture would have major implications on where Manchester United would go from now.

With Liverpool next weekend, a win was necessary, if not obligatory for the Red devils. Last week with that win against Newcastle where they have had anything but a performance, Manchester United made sure that they played the best brand of football, and the goals were bound to come.

Coming up against a striker like Harry Kane, who was on fire before today, Manchester United, instead of getting on the back foot, got on the offensive and showed the world what they are capable of. Having enjoyed the lion’s share of possession, tackles and most importantly goals, the Red devils have introduced themselves in great fashion today.

Tottenham undergoing their late season traditional slip

Last season it was Arsenal, before that it was Liverpool, and as it is turning out to be now, Manchester United have been the latest team to benefit from the late season dip of form that has become a sort of tradition by Spurs. While their defeat at Liverpool was a shock, still they had something to hold on, however, with defeat in this fixture which has thrown them 6 points adrift of the Champions League spot, the wait for Spurs to be in the Champions League looks set to be extended once again.

And like their former seasons, there is nobody but themselves to be blamed for this outcome.

Race for the top 4 looks more like a 2 horse race

At the start of March, there were four teams in the race for the 4th spot with only 7 points differentiating the quadruple. However, a fortnight later, with Arsenal surging their form and Manchester United and Liverpool both winning games for fun, the race for the top 4 looks more like a top 4 race. And with two rivals Liverpool and Manchester United in the midst of all the drama that is set to unfold, their decades old rivalry might take a new turn this season.
