EHF Velux Champions League: Paris won the France derby; Zagreb and Wisla demolish KIF Kolding and Vardar

EHF Velux Champions League:

Today on schedule we saw three games from round 16 of EHF Velux Champions League. Results are more the ones that we expected with only exception from RK Zagreb who manage to destroy KIF Kolding Kobenhavn and only with some quick goals at the end they KIF Kolding avoid bigger defeat.

Naturhouse La Rioja vs. MKB-MVM Veszprem 23 – 31 (10 – 15)

Veszprem started excellent and took the early lead 4-0. In 15’ La Rioja manages to come on -2 but Veszprem quickly manages to get back on 4 goals lead and they keep the lead until the halftime. La Rioja better open the second half and in 35’ they manage to come on -1 (15-16) but then again Veszprem start playing more aggressive in defense and in only three minutes they scored 3 goals for another 4 goals lead. In last 10 minutes Veszprem manage to extend their 5 goals lead to final 8 goals difference. Ilic and Sulic were the best Veszprem scorers with 9 goals each, for home side Fernandez Perez scored 6.

Dunkerque vs. Paris Saint-Germain 21 – 23 (13 – 12)

In a though game between two France teams Paris Saint-Germain manage to get the win in the last quarter of the game. Paris Saint-Germain played better first part of first half in which they had 2 goals lead. Dunkerque manages to take the first lead in this game in 20’ (10-9) and until the halftime they manage to keep the lead. At the start of second half Paris Saint-Germain quickly equal the score and in 41’ manage to get into the lead (17-15). Dunkerque manages to fight back and in 50’ score was 18-18 but in last 10 minutes Paris Saint-Germain was more concentrate team and won 23-21. Nagy was the best scorer for Dunkerque with 6 goals while Hansen scored 11 for Paris Saint-Germain. Interesting thing is that Barachet and N’Diaye both get red cards after receiving suspension for 3 times each.

HC PPD Zagreb vs. KIF Kolding Kobenhavn 22 – 17 (15 – 8)

We expected this to be one of hardest game in round of 16, but what we witness was totally demolition of KIF Kolding Kobenhavn and only with some quick goals in last 5 minutes they manage to give them a chance in second game. Zagreb start excellent and in 10’ it was 6-1 and until the half time goal difference was only growing. At the halftime Zagreb got huge 7 goals lead, KIF Kolding start better in second half and with two quick goals they manage to get on -5 in 33’. But in 42’ Zagreb was again on +7 (17-10) and in 48’ they had the biggest difference +9 (20-11). KIF Kolding manage to get “back” in the game in only 4 minutes in which they scored 4 goals and at the end they are waiting rematch with “decent” -5.

Wisla Plock vs. HC Vardar Skopje 32 – 26 (14 – 12)

Another good game and another surprise big home win. Vardar was better in opening of the game as they hold the lead until the 20’. In last 10 minutes of the first half Wisla took the lead and finish first half with 2 goals difference. Key moment was the opening of the second half, in only 10 minutes Wisla manage to go on +8 and until the end they didn’t give Vardar a chance to get close to them. Nikcevic was the best scorer for Wisla with 6 goals, for Vardar Dujshebaev scored 10 goals.
