EURO Championship: How will England lineup against Lithuania

EURO Championship Match Preview

Having won all of their fixtures in the qualifying stages, England will be going into this match knowing that any result will have little effect on their future in the competition. While this would be the first time that both of these teams will meet each other, Roy Hodgson’s men will have the edge of playing at the home turf in-front of the minnows Lithuania. So far in the competition England have scored 11 goals with only 1 against therefore, even though their group isn’t tough, their defending has been above par so far.

Here is how England are expected to lineup against Lithuania: –

Fraser Foster

With a stellar season under for the Premier League minnows West Brom under his belt already, Fraser Foster should get a nod from Roy Hodgson. He has kept 13 clean sheets already this season.

Gary Cahill

Although Roy Hodgson has named 4 center-backs in his team which will take part in the International matches, Gary Cahill stands head and shoulders above his compatriots.

Chris Smalling

While Phil Jones and Phil Jagielka are also eyeing the 2nd spot in the heart of English defense on Friday, Smalling – with his recent surge of form, should get a nod from Roy Hodgson to form a center back pairing with Gary Cahill

Nathaniel Clyne

Although Kyle Walker has also been nominated for the full back spot, Clyne has been a top performer for the Saints already this season and should be in the starting 11.

Kieran Gibbs

Even though Arsenal have 2 specialists left back at the helm, Gibbs is a player who has stood out for them at important occasions this season. And with Leighton Baines not on his best form in the past 8 months, the Londoner might earn the last place in the English defense.

Michael Carrick

In the 12 appearances that he has made for the Red devils this season, Manchester United have lost only 2. And with his masterclass performance against Liverpool still fresh, the injury returning midfielder will be the 1st choice.

Jordan Henderson

Although Henderson seemed invisible against Marouanne Fellaini and Michael Carrick on the weekend, his performances throughout the season have been enough for Roy Hodgson to call him up.

Theo Walcott

For a player who missed the World Cup 2014 due to injury, this would be the first time Walcott would be making a National-team appearance in well over a year.

Wayne Rooney

Even though Louis Van Gaal was adamant to play Rooney in the holding midfield role this season, Wayne Rooney – when given the chance, has strengthened his claim for a spot in the striking department.

Danny Welbeck

At a time when Olivier Giroud has eclipsed the Arsenal front for too long and reduced him to the bench, this might be a chance for Welbeck to make the full of his available game time.

Harry Kane

Having already netted 27 goals this season for Spurs in all competitions, Harry Kane stands head and shoulders above his striking fellows in the English team.
