UEFA Champions League, quarter-final draw from Nyon

Soccer News:

UEFA Champions league is enter its quarter-finals stage, on Friday in UEFA headquarters in Nyon (Switzerland) we will see a quarter-final draw. Eight clubs are left Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Monaco, Paris Saint-Germain, Porto and Real Madrid. If we compare them with the clubs from last season than 5 clubs are the same (Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid and Barcelona), if we look in recent history then in quarter-finals we mostly see Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich. Also please have in mind that there will be no ban to play against a club from same country. Theoretically in less than 1 month we could watch three times El Clasico once in Primera and two times in UEFA Champions League.

If we take a closer look at the clubs and who might win this year Champions league then three clubs jump in front the rest Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Barcelona. We don’t want to say that rest of clubs in quarter-finals doesn’t have a chance of winning UEFA Champions League.  Just that these three clubs have a slightly better chance to win it. Each of those three clubs has some weak and strong sides. Bayern Munich is excellent all around team but if opponent is playing aggressively on the ball then cannot force their game, Real is well it’s Real and for Barcelona well they forget that defense is also needed to win some titles. If we look head-to-head section from those three clubs who is best and worst opponent then for current title holder Bayern Munich best opponent would be Barcelona (5 win; 2 draw; 1 loss; 15-9) and the worst would be Paris Saint-Germain (2 win; 0 draw; 4 losses; 8-8). For Real Madrid best would be Porto (9 wins; 1 draw; 2 losses; 23-10) and the worst Bayern Munich (9 wins; 2 draws; 11 looses; 31-33). For Barcelona best choice is Monaco (2 wins; 0 draws; 0 losses; 3-0) and the worst Bayern Munich (1 win; 2 draw; 5 looses; 9-15). Interesting thing is that France giant Paris Saint-Germain has the terrible head-to-head record with most quarter-finals clubs.
