Premier League Rumors: Arsenal going after Chris Smalling, new rumors on Petr Cech

Soccer News and Rumors:

After Arsenal suffered yet another devastating elimination from the UEFA Champions League, they have decided to try and fix their weaknesses during the summer. It’s widely known that the Gunners have problems with their defense and goalkeeping. That is why they are going after Manchester United’s central defender Chris Smalling and Chelsea’s goalkeeper Petr Cech.

It is reported that the Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger is mostly likely offering about £12 million for Smalling. If you can remember, in 2010, Arsenal tried to sign the centre-back from Fulham, but Manchester United took him under their noses. Smalling’s time at Old Trafford hasn’t been very successful, as he has struggled with finding a spot in the starting eleven. Even though he isn’t a top class defender, he will definitely be an upgrade for Arsenal. Smalling is a player that has pace, power and height – all things that the current Arsenal defenders lack. He will most likely be a replacement for Mertesacker, who is absolutely out of form this season.

Furthermore, Wenger will try to find a solid goalkeeper that will fix their woes in front of their own goal. The Frenchman should start thinking about Petr Cech as an option, especially after the player stated that he didn’t want to sit on the bench anymore. Even though Cech will be 33-years-old after this season, he is still an elite goalkeeper that is worth at least £10 million. If Wenger has to opportunity to sign him, he shouldn’t hesitate even one bit.

These two players will definitely provide stability for Arsenal if they are brought to the club during the summer. Smalling will improve the defensive line, will Cech finally end Arsenal’s struggles in front of their goal. It would be an interesting summer transfer window this year – it will be crucial for a lot of clubs all over Europe.
