Friday transfer News: Iikay Gundogan delays contract talks with Dortmund amid interest from Manchester United

Manchester United Transfer News:

Borussia Dortmund midfielder has delayed contract talks with the German giants amid news that both Manchester United and Arsenal are hoping to lure him to England in the summer. While this can be a temporary block as far as Borussia Dortmund is concerned, it might well give Manchester United a huge pursuit in their long pursuit of the German.

Although the German missed a last portion of this season due to an injury which ruled him out of the World Cup in 2014, Dortmund are aware of the talent they have at their peril and thus are looking to tie him in a new contract as early as possible.

While his form was under criticism when he returned from injury, back to back performances in the Bundesliga have silenced the critics of the German. Since signing for Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2011, the German has been an important part of the Borussia Dortmund squad that enjoyed a double-winning season in 2011-12.

While he acquired interests from the Red devils in the summer of 2014 as well, his injury record prompted the Red devils to make a move. And since they also signed Daley Blind in the summer to meet their midfield needs, the prospect of signing Gundogan was laid to rest, at-least for the time being.

However, with the recent form of Manchester United midfielders under massive scrutiny, it was reported that Louis Van Gaal has included Gundogan as his potential target for summer 2015. His innate ability to defend which is catalyzed by his ability to read the game has made him a hot prospect once again.

While he is currently tied with Borussia Dortmund in a contract that will keep him till 2016, the fears over his future integrated on Wednesday when he refused to sign a new contract claiming that he ‘’needs time’’ to sort out his future.

While that news might seem sour to the Dortmund fans, Manchester United could be handed a huge boost by this news. While he has all the abilities of a capable defensive midfielder, his price tag of 16million pounds could well initiate a tug of war between Arsenal and Manchester United. But if the recent history of the Red devils is to be kept in mind, Manchester United have everything in their bank to outwit the Gunners in the pursuit of the German.
