FA Cup: How will Manchester United lineup against Arsenal

FA Cup Match Preview

At a time when both these teams are fighting neck-to-neck in the Premier League, an FA Cup fixture between them has got more spiced up. While FA Cup is the only chance for Manchester United to acquire a silverware this season, Arsenal fans are thinking the same after their defeat to AS Monaco has left them in cold. While Manchester United last won this competition almost a decade ago, their players would be itching to book a place in the FA Cup Semifinal.

Here is how Manchester United are expected to lineup against Arsenal: –

David de Gea

Although Manchester United acquired the services of Victor Valdes in the January to have a decent back up, the form of the young Spaniard has limited his veteran counterpart to the bench.

Luke Shaw

Although the Englishman was absent from Manchester United’s win at St. James Park, he is expected to get his place back in the Manchester United defense.

Marcos Rojo

Having started on the left full back role for Manchester United in their nervy win at Newcastle, the Argentine is expected to play in the heart of Manchester United defense against Arsenal.

Chris Smalling

With Jonny Evans out for a long term after being embroiled in a spitting row with Papiss Cisse, Smalling will be ahead of Phil Jones in the Red devils’ pecking order. While Jones undeniably offer the Red devils more physical strength comparatively, lack of pace will allow Chris Smalling to go ahead.

Antonio Valencia

While Louis Van Gaal has demolished most of the tactics that were employed by his predecessors in the Man United hot-seat, he has chosen to follow the code when it comes to Valencia. Signed as a midfielder then turned as a defender under the tutelage of Sir Alex, Valencia will go neck to neck with Alexis Sanchez.

Daley Blind

While his position would be in doubt when Michael Carrick completes his comeback from injury in a short time, the Dutchman is currently the main choice for Louis Van Gaal in the Manchester United midfield.

Ashley Young

While Manchester United have spent multi million pounds on extracting talent from around the globe last summer, Ashley Young is surpassing them all if his current form is kept as an example. Even though it was his 1st goal of the season last week against Newcastle, the timing couldn’t have been more impeccable as it kept Manchester United 2 points above fierce rivals Liverpool.

Ander Herrera

Due to the lack of interest that Louis Van Gaal has enshrined in Juan Mata since the former’s arrival at Manchester United, Herrera will play in the attacking midfield role.

Adnan Januzaj

A fortnight from now with the notion that Januzaj will start ahead of Di Maria, Manchester United fans would have been furious however, with the current scenario of form surrounding the former Real Madrid star, it will be a good decision by Louis Van Gaal to keep him out of the firing line.

Radamel Falcao

Having started last game on the bench as Wayne Rooney played in the sole-striker role, this is a game that could give a new life to his Manchester United career. With the stakes getting no bigger than a place in the FA Cup Semifinal available, Falcao can make the most of his opportunity in the absence of the injured Robin Van Persie.

Wayne Rooney

Call it as an action of nature that almost a month after Louis Van Gaal concluded that Rooney will play in the deep midfield role, the turn of events has forced the Dutchman to play the striker in his conventional position.

Manchester United Vs Arsenal will take place at the Old Trafford Stadium on 9th March.
