Women’s EHF Champions League, we know six teams that will go into quarter-finals - only two question for the last round

This weekend we saw round 9 of Women’s EHF Champions League, one round before the end of group phase we know 6 teams that are going into quarter-finals and the last two teams we will get the next weekend in last round.


In Group A everything is already known. After win from Buducnost against HC Leipzig on Saturday we know all 4 clubs that are going into quarter-finals. Group round opened on Friday with the game between last RK Krim Mercator and WHC Vardar SCBT. Home side had only theoretical chances to go into quarter-finals and Vardar need a win to secure their place in quarter-finals. With that in mind Vardar enter strong and on halftime they already got huge 12 goals lead. At the end home side could be happy to lose with only 12 goals difference 47-29. For home side Tamara Mavsar scored 11 goals while for Vardar Andrea Penezic also scored 11 and Maja Sokac scored 6. On Saturday group leader Buducnost beat HC Leipzig and kick them out of further competition. At the end Buducnost won with huge 13 goals difference 32-19, best scorer for Leipzig was Karolina Kudlacz with 9 goals, Romania player Cristina Georgiana Neagu was the best Buducnost scorer with 9 goals also. In the last game of round 9 Dinamo-Sinara and Thüringen HC share the point spoil with final score 30-30.


In Group B we got two secured spot and two open spots for quarter-finals. In the must win game to keep their chances for quarter-finals Metz manage to beat Sweden IK Savehof. Metz was controlling the game during the most part of it, only at the end they allow Savehof to come near them but they didn’t allow any surprise to happen. At the end Metz won with 23-21 Joanna Lindvall-Haggren was best scorer for home side with 6 goals, for Metz Ana Gros scored 7 goals. Viborg got a chance to beat only team in both groups that had 8 wins and to secure their spot in quarter-finals. They start good and control the game, but in second half Larvik strengthen their defense and turn the score into their favor for the win 29-23. Serbian player Sanja Damnjanovic was the best Viborg scorer with 7 goals, for guests Linn-Kristin Koren Riegelhuth scored 9 goals. Second best team Hungary Gyori Audi ETO KC beat HCM Baia Mare 29-23. Gyori was controlling the game and didn’t give a chance for Baia Mare to endanger their lead. Sussan Muller scored 8 goals for Gyori and for Baia Mare Ardean Elise and Do Nasciment both scored 4 goals.
