NBA News: The Clippers sign Nate Robinson to 10-day deal

Basketball, NBA News:

The Los Angeles Clippers have been making efforts to solidify their bench all season long, and it seems they may have finally done it. It has been reported that the team has signed veteran point-guard Nate Robinson to a 10-day contract, which will most probably be extended to the end of the campaign. For Robinson, this will be the third squad that he has played for this year, as he started the season with the Denver Nuggets, got traded to the Boston Celtics and now he’ll suit up for the Clippers.

“We looked at a lot of different guys,” Rivers said. “We looked at another three, we almost brought in a two, there’s a four out there we could’ve brought in. At the end of the day, I just said, ‘Who’s the best player of the group?’ (The staff) said Nate, and I said, ‘Let’s sign Nate,’ and I know Nate. I’d rather get a guy that’s been in the league, can score, and has experience. That’s our thinking. If you’re going to do it, it could be ten days, it could be two ten days, it could be for the year. If you’re going to bring a guy in at this point, to me, you bring in a veteran guy that’s played the game, and that’s why you don’t worry about positions. You’ll figure it out.”

If Robinson finds a way to show his incredible energy, he will surely secure himself a deal until the end of the season. The Clippers will definitely need a boost in the playoffs and Nate could be their spark-plug. However, it will be a bit hard for the point-guard to make a significant impact on Los Angeles’ play, as he will be fighting for playtime in a backcourt that consists of Chris Paul, Austin Rivers, J.J. Reddick and Jamal Crawford.

Robinson’s season so far isn’t what you call spectacular – he was barely himself in Denver and couldn’t even average six points per game. If he wishes to become a contributor with the Clippers, he will have to raise his efficiency and energy levels. The next ten days will show whether the Clippers made the right move by signing him.
