Hector Cuper new coach for Egypt national soccer team

Argentina coach Hector Cuper is newly appointed coach for Egypt national soccer team and his main task is to get Egypt to FIFA World Cup that is in Russia 2018.


Hector Cuper is probably the biggest name that site down on Egypt bench. Cuper made his name in the 1990 when he was coach for Spain team Mallorca. Under his charge Mallorca won Spain Copa del Rey in season 1997/1998 and then in next year they won Spain Super Cup and manage to get to finals in UEFA Cup Winner Cup. At Villa Park in Birmingham Mallorca was facing strong Lazio team with stars like Mihajlovic, Nesta, Mancini, Nedved, Vieri and Salas. Vieri scored for Lazio lead in 7’ but Dani quickly scored the equalizer in 11’, Pavel Nedved scored the winner in 81’ for Lazio title.


After that Cuper moved to another Spain team Valencia but his luck didn’t change much, his team played good but they couldn’t get any trophies. In 2000 they played in UEFA Champions League finals and get crushed by Real Madrid 3-0 (Morientes 39’; McManaman 67’; Raul 75’). Next year Cuper also manage to get to the finals of UEFA Champions League this time their opponent was German giant Bayern Munich. Match start excellent Mendieta scored for Valencia lead in 3’ but Effenberg scored equalizer from penalty shot in 50’. After 90’ and extra time there was no winner so teams went for penalty shootout. From first 5 tries both teams’ miss two penalties and then in 7th series Thomas Linke scored for Bayern Munich and Mauricio Pellegrino missed the penalty for Valencia. After two-year in Valencia Cuper got an offer to coach Inter but he didn’t have any good results with them.


After episode in Inter his career was going down, his last job was in United Arab Emirates he was coaching Al Waslu but he only manages to stay on the bench for 4 months. It remains to see if Cuper can manage to bring Egypt back on World Cup scene since Italy 1990.
