Today on Bundesliga Schedule we had opportunity to watch 145 Ruhr derbies or a match between Borussia Dortmund and Schalke 04. These teams come into this game in different modes, Borussia has finally waken and start winning and Schalke 04 cannot catch Borussia Monchengladbach and fight for the spot that leads direct to UEFA Champions League.
Looking at the history between these two clubs Schalke 04 has more wins (57) while Borussia manage to win 48 games. Both of clubs also playing UEFA Champions League and they went to knockout phase, but unfortunately both lost their first games Schalke against Real Madrid and Borussia against Juventus. But let’s get back to the game. Borussia boss Jürgen Klopp have a lot of problem with injuries this season Kevin Gorbkreutz, Erik Drum and Lukasz Piszcek are all on injury list, but that is nothing if we look on who Roberto Di Matteo cannot count Jefferson Farfan, Julian Draxler, Chinedu Obasi, Ralf Fahrmann, Joel Matip, Fabian Giefer, Jan Kirchhoff and Atsuto Uchida. Di Matteo could easily make another team from his injury list.
Borussia start in 4-2-3-1 formation while Di Matteo sends Schalke in little defensive modified 3-5-2 formation 3-4-2-1. From the start until the end there was only one team on the field Borussia Dortmund. Klopp troops didn’t allow Schalke anything, if we look at statistic Borussia had 65%-35% ball possession and total 31 shots toward Schalke 04 goal. But Schalke defense was looking strong until 78’ then in only two minutes they received two goals. In 78’ Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored first goal for Borussia. Schalke failed to clear one ball and Mkhitaryan pass was deflect from Aogo direct toward Aubameyang who didn’t have any problems scoring the first goal. Only one minute later it was 2-0 for Borussia, this time after a good fast break and excellent cross from Gundogan Mkhitaryan scored from a close range. Marco Reus scored the third goal for Borussia after terrible mistake by Schalke 04 goalkeeper Wellenreuther.
With this win Borussia Dortmund is now on 10th place with 28 points, still 7 points behind a place that leads into Europa competition in next season. Schalke 04 pay a high cost for this defeat since they drop to 5th place and allow Augsburg and Hoffenheim (and maybe Werder) to catch them completely.
