Transfer Rumors: Xavi leaving Barcelona on summer, Rodgers thinks that Illarramendi is ideal replacement for Steven Gerrard

While Barcelona is playing their return game against Villarreal in Copa del Rey Spain newspaper publish information that one of Barcelona icon and captain Xavi is leaving the club. According to the Spanish newspapers Xavi and his father meet with representative with New York City and they finalize the transfer that will happen next year. Xavi already wanted to leave the club last summer but after Luis Enrique arrive for coach Xavi decide to stay one more season. But with 35 years on his back and with form from his replacement Ivan Rakitic Xavi is getting even less chances in first XI. Xavi might join his ex-teammate David Villa who is playing for New York Red Bull. Director of New York Claudio Reina said that it is in interest of New York to always bring experience player and Xavi is definitely one of them.


Another Spain giant might lose one of his players in the summer transfer window. According to some sources Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is looking for replacement for Steven Gerrard and one of player that are high on his list is Real Madrid midfielder Asier Illarramendi. Steven Gerrard announces earlier this year that he is leaving Liverpool at the end of the season and moving to MLS club LA Galaxy. Steven Gerrard told the Liverpool that he will not join direct rivals but something similar said Frank Lampard when he left Chelsea. When Gerrard leaves central midfielder place will be open and 24 years old Illarramendi is perfect substitute for Brendan Rodgers. Illarramendi joined Real Madrid in season 2013/2014 from Real Sociedad for €12 million. For Real Madrid Illarramendi played 78 games and scored 3 goals.
