Brendan Rodgers on Philippe Coutinho: ‘’He’s now shooting like a proper Brazilian’’

English Premier League News:

After that relentless win against the reigning Premier League Champions which helped Liverpool to claim 5th spot in the Premier League table, Brendan Rodgers’ held nothing barred as the Northern Irishman was himself relentless in his praise for the players. Coming into this match on the back of an un-impressive defeat at Istanbul, Liverpool had to give their fans a positive vibe and they did it in an immaculate manner.

Giving Raheem Sterling the nod ahead of Daniel Sturridge in the starting lineup of Liverpool, Rodgers described the reason of the striker’s absence from the first season as a ‘’post-injury phase’’. However, for Liverpool who were expected by many to suffer from the Istanbul hangover, the Reds did their business even with none of their specialist 4 strikers on the pitch.

Although Manchester City also arrived into this match with the lack of an ideal buildup with courtesy to that defeat at the hands of Barcelona, Manuel Pellegrini’s men were expected to take the match by storm as they had 2 extra days than Liverpool to recover from this fixture.

However, much to the amusement of Liverpool fans, their players started this game from the same moment from where they left last time when the Citizens visited Anfield: with a Vincent Kompany mistake for the goal.

Ironically for Kompany who had made a decisive error last time out when Manchester City visited Liverpool, the Manchester City skipper did the same again: albeit in a much less ridiculous manner. And as we know what the little magician Philippe Coutinho can do with his feet, he put the ball into the path of Jordan Henderson who produced a finish of which even Steven Gerrard would be proud of.

From that moment when Liverpool took the lead, City were as if they were woken from deep slumber as they started to barricade attacks on the Liverpool half. And it didn’t took long when Eden Dzeko was celebrating with a goal under his belt.

From that moment till Coutinho produced a magnificent win, the match was equally balanced. However, credit goes to Liverpool that they limited one-on-one chances for Manchester City as the visitors were handed their 1st away defeat in 9 matches.

Brendan Rodgers was full of praise for the man whom Liverpool supporters described as their Man of the Match against Manchester City. Like his post-goal celebration which waved a vibe of euphoria around Anfield, the Liverpool boss’s post-match conference wasn’t less phenomenol, at-least for the Liverpool fans.

We said he has to improve his goals because of the quality he has,’ said the Liverpool boss. ‘He’s now shooting like a proper Brazilian.

Said a visibly euphoric Brendan Rodgers in his post-match conference.
