The All-Star break of the NHL has already came (22-26 January), but only the regular season matches have stopped – the trade rumors haven’t. A lot of front offices are working non-stop in order to find the best deal for their franchises – whether it’s bolstering playoff hopes or looking towards the future.
5. Chris Stewart, Buffalo Sabres
Both the Calgary Flames and the Nashville Predators have seem to be quite interested in the Buffalo Sabres’ right wing as the two teams are looking to improve their performance. Calgary are trying to squeeze into the playoffs while Nashville will be trying to solidify its second position in the West. However, the Sabres are wanting a bit too much for Stewart, who hasn’t been very productive throughout the season. If they lower the price for him, the trade would be definitely more likely to happen.
4. Andrej Sekera, Carolina Hurricanes
The Los Angeles Kings and the Pittsburgh Penguins have been showing a lot of interested in the Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Andrej Sekera lately. The Kings are searching for a replacement for the suspended Slava Voynov, while the Penguins will be looking to overcome the injury of Olli Maata. The Kings would definitely need any boost they can get, as they are just one spot short of the Wild Card place right now, while the Penguins would just try to solidify their playoff position and maybe even going up in the standings a bit.
3. Arizona Coyotes looking to transfer a bunch of players
The Arizona Coyotes have been looking like a team that is going in a rebuild mode, especially if the rumors that they are looking to deal center Antoine Vermette and defensemen Keith Yandle and Zbynek Michalek are true. They already dealt their goalkeeper Devan Dubnyk to Minnesota. The Boston Bruins and the Ottawa Senators are interested in Vermette, while the Dallas Stars and the Detroit Red Wings have shown some interest in Michalek.
2. Dion Phaneuf and Mike Richards
There have been a lot of speculations that the Toronto Maple Leafs are looking to trade their defenseman Dian Phaneuf for the Los Angeles Kings center Mike Richards. Both teams will get what they need from this trade, as the Maple Leafs will have some championship experience, while Phaneuf will help the Kings solve their depth problems. It’s really uncertain if this swap is going to happen, but there have definitely been a lot of signs that it’s something to be looked out for.
1. Ryan O’Reilly, Colorado Avalanche
The Colorado Avalanche forward, Ryan O’Reilly has been surrounded by a lot of trade rumors lately. There have been reports that O’Reilly’s next team maybe either the Calgary Flames or the Columbus Blue Jackets. However, the Flames or the Blue Jackets would need to made quite a big offer if they wish to get O’Reilly on their roster before the trade deadline. The Avalanche will maybe try to get T.J. Brodie from the Flames or Jack Johnson from the Blue Jackets if they wish to part ways with O’Reilly.
