NBA All-Star News: The 3-Point Contest Is Worth Watching

Basketball, NBA News:

The NBA’s all-star weekend has lost some of its luster over the past five to ten years, with star players not taking the game seriously and declining to participate in the slam dunk contest and 3-point shootout.

But this year could be different. The slam dunk contest, which features many of the league’s rising stars, is set to be one of the best we have seen in a long time. Likewise, the 3-point shootout, which has become an afterthought, will also be worth watching. The league has recently announced that both of the splash brothers, Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, will join a number of the league’s best shooters, including Atlanta’s Kyle Korver, Portland’s Wesley Matthews, and Los Angeles Clippers’ J.J. Redick.

Curry, who is widely viewed as the best shooter of our generation with the potential to one day be the best shooter of all time, actually has the worst three point percentage among the participants I listed above. Thompson is coming off a recent performance in which he set a personal record for three point field goals in a game during a contest where he scored 37 points in the third quarter alone.

Korver is the league’s leader in three point percentage and is on pace to have the greatest shooting season of all time. Matthews, who is very underrated, actually leads the league in 3-point field goals made, and Redick’s reputation speaks for itself, dating all the way back to his college days at Duke.

Never before has the league seen so many great shooters participate in the 3-point shootout, making for an exciting event come February 14. The 3-point contest will be worth tuning into.
