World Handball Championship: Results so far and Today's fixtures

World Handball Championship:

Group A:

  1. Slovenia 2-0-0 +18

  2. Qatar 2-0-0 +12

  3. Spain 2-0-0 +7

  4. Brazil 0-0-2 -7

  5. Belarus 0-0-2 -10

  6. Chile 0-0-2 -20

Brazil – Spain 27-29 (14-15)

Brazil was demolished in first round by Qatar and nobody expect them to give such a hard game for Spain. Spain took the early lead in first half and at that point they control the game, they even had +6 in the first half. But soon Brazil 5-1 defense forced from errors in Spain attack and with fast breaks until the halftime Brazil come to only -1. In 36’ Brazil even took the lead 19-18 and at that point both teams played goal by goal. Spain breaks the match in 45’ when they gain quick three goal advantage 26-23.

Belarus – Slovenia 29-34 (8-17)

After their hard time against Chile this was totally different game for Slovenia. Slovenia took the lead in 17’ and after that goal difference only extend. In second half Belarus manage to get on -3 but Dragan Gajic soon moves Slovenia back on safe goal distance. Dragan Gajic was key player for Slovenia in this game with 9 goals.

Chile – Qatar 20-27 (9-15)

Another win for home side and with this win they are already one step in the next round. Start of the game was hard for both teams that result with only six goals (3-3) in first 12’. Qatar manages to get small lead in the middle of first half and with excellent saves by Goran Stojanovic they start to extend their lead. Until the end of first half they already had +6. In second half Qatar shown some great plays in both defense and attack and manage to get their second win in this World Championship.

Group B:

  1. Macedonia 2-0-0 +10

  2. Croatia 2-0-0 +5

  3. Austria 1-0-1 0

  4. Bosnia and Herzegovina 1-0-1 +3

  5. Iran 0-0-2 -7

  6. Tunisia 0-0-2 -11

Croatia – Tunisia 28-25 (14-13)

Croatia manage to get their second win in (again) hard game. Croatia better opens the game and grabs a quick lead, but as soon as they went on +4 (or +3) Tunisia quickly come back on -1 or draw. Because only on some errors from Tunisia side Croatia manage to go on halftime break with +1. Second half was similar to first; Croatia was in slight lead and every time they manage to go above +2 Tunisia quickly come back. Winner was decided in period from 20’ to 25’ when Croatia manages to score some quick goals thanks to good saves by their goalkeeper Mirko Alilovic. Until the end Croatia didn’t allow Tunisia to get back into the game and secure another win.

Iran – Macedonia 31-33 (17-19)

Macedonia demolish Tunisia in first round and everyone expect them do to the same to Iran. Spectators in Ali Bin Hamad Al Attiyah arena show very offensive first half (36 goals). Macedonia was constantly in the lead but Iran was mostly close behind them. Biggest mistake by Iran was their inexperience that especial show in their tries to score from some bad position that allow Macedonia to keep the goal difference. Ten minutes before the end Iran come to only -1 but they were unable to score the equalizer. At the end Macedonia manage to secure second win and Iran is still waiting for their first points in World Championship.

Austria – Bosnia and Herzegovina 23-21 (11-12)

In battle for third place Austria manage to beat Bosnia and Herzegovina. In such a high stake game we saw a lot of tensions, which results for many unforced shots and missed goal opportunities that lead to close score. In 25’ Bosnia manages to get +2 but they couldn’t move further away and at the halftime they went with only +1. Second half start poorly for Bosnia and Herzegovina team they only manage to score 2 goals in first 18’ and at that points Austria had +6 lead. At the end Bosnia and Herzegovina manages to get close again but they make two technical mistakes and literally gift Austria the win.

Today on schedule are second round games for Group C and Group D.

Group C:
16/01/2015 16:00GMT – Iceland vs. Algeria

After first round poor performance and lost against Sweden Iceland will do their best to win this game. Algeria as the weakest nation in this group should not be a problem for Iceland team

16/01/2015 16:00GMT – Czech Republic vs. Sweden

Czech show some good plays in second half of their match against France. If they manage to show those play again during the whole game they might made some surprising result.

16/01/2015 16:00GMT – Egypt vs. France

Egypt demolish Algeria in first round with huge +14 at the end, but France is not Algeria. There is little chance that they can do anything against France. Everything except France win will be a huge surprise.

Group D:
16/01/2015 16:00GMT – Argentina vs. Poland

Today we will see two interesting game in Group D, first will be between Argentina and Poland. Argentina surprises everyone in their first game when they draw against Denmark. Poland was also surprised by Germany in first round when they lost at opening of World Handball Championship 26-29.  This will be important game for Poland; they need to win in order to catch a better position for the next round.

16/01/2015 16:00GMT – Germany vs. Russia

We can say this is the derby game not only of Group D but also of second round. Two ex-giants of World handball are going face to face. Russia demolishes Saudi Arabia in first round while Germany surprise Poland.  With Denmark drawing against Argentina both of these teams have an excellent chance to keep the first position for next round.

16/01/2015 16:00GMT – Saudi Arabia vs. Denmark

Denmark was already surprised by Argentina in first round and they will probably take this game very serious. That means there is little chance for Saudi Arabia to make any good results in this game.
