When the final whistle blew at Anfield last night, Liverpool were in an outrageous mood due to some superb play by their side. Against the Premier League Leaders Chelsea, Brendan Rodgers’ men showcased some quality football for the full 90 minutes. The Merseyside Club were coming into this match with an 8 match unbeaten run, and Mourinho’s Chelsea did no harm to it either. Even though the match ended as 1-1, giving Chelsea a slight advantage going into second leg, but undoubtedly it was Liverpool who played the better football.
Chelsea, who scored 5 goals in an away match on Sunday, were extremely humbled by the Liverpool defense. The likes of Fabregas, Matic, Costa and Mikel were nowhere to be seen. It was such a superb defensive show by Liverpool which allowed Chelsea to have just 1 shot on target in the entire match, and that too from a penalty as well.
On the other hand, it seems that Liverpool Football Club have finally regained their old form. When Liverpool defense was playing superbly well, the likes of Sterling, Coutinho, Henderson and Lallana were making Chelsea to do a merry dance. In his goal for Liverpool last night, Sterling absolutely demolished Cahill, with his run and scored with a left foot in the end. The Reds could have plenty more had Courtois didn’t made some amazing saves from Coutinho, Sterling, Gerrard and Lallana.
So in the pre match press conference, Brendan Rodgers was in an upbeat mode. Transforming his excitement into words, the Liverpool Boss has this to say,
“They will probably feel happy with the draw because we definitely deserved to win.It was an outstanding team performance and sets it up perfectly for the second leg.”
Final Score: Liverpool 1-1 Chelsea
Brendan Rodgers: “We were outstanding. Chelsea are lucky to get away with a draw”.
