Chile – Belarus 23-34 (11-14)
Belarus beat Chile and leaves them in the calculation for the next round. Only first half offer some excitement but even then Chile was slowly failing behind. In second half Belarus enter in higher gear and crush Chile for their first points in this World Handball Championship.
Slovenia – Brazil 35-32 (19:18)
in a strong game with a lot of goals Slovenia manage to beat Brazil and to secure next round. Start of a game was played goal by goal until 13’ when Slovenia manages to get themselves four goals lead (9-5). Until the end of halftime Brazil manages to catch Slovenia and to go on break with only -1. In second half Slovenia keep the lead until the last ten minutes when Brazil takes the lead with one goal ahead. But Slovenia quickly turn the game and five minutes before the end they have two goals lead that was enough for their another win.
Qatar – Spain 25-28 (10-8)
last round Qatar surprise everyone when they beat Slovenia, nobody expect such a good performance from them. In again good game from Qatar side, they were winning until the last fifteen minutes of the game. In those fifteen minutes Spain manage to turn the game and take the lead on the table. Crucial moment of the game happened in 56’ when Spain manage to turn -3 to +1 (25-24) and in next attack Qatar Zarko Markovic missed a shot. Spain manages to make fast break and to go on 26-24. At that point game was over for Qatar and Spain could start celebrating.
Before the last round we know 3 participants for the next round, but we don’t know who is taking what spot. In last round Spain will go against Slovenia and if Slovenia manages to win then we will have three teams with 8 points who manage to beat each other in group phase.
Qatar as the only team who played both Slovenia and Spain has -1 goal difference, Spain is at +3 and Slovenia is at -2. Qatar don’t have a chance to be first, for Spain to stay first they cannot lose with more than 2 goals difference and for Slovenia is the opposite, they need to win with 3 or more goals.
For the last place that lead to a game against Croatia (first in Group B) we will see a battle between Brazil and Belarus, Brazil is playing against Chile and Belarus is playing against Qatar. With such good performance from Qatar in this World Handball Championship we don’t give much chance for Belarus to catch fourth place, especial if they need a help from Chile to draw or win against Brazil in order for them to have a chance for next round.
