World Handball Championship: Qatar still at 100% and another derby games in Group D

World Handball Championship:

Group A:

  1. [Q] Spain 3-0-0 +28

  2. [Q] Qatar 3-0-0 +14

  3. Slovenia 2-0-1 +16

  4. Brazil 1-0-2 -2

  5. Belarus 0-0-3 -15

  6. Chile 0-0-3 -41

Spain – Chile 37-16 (14-7)

Spain didn’t have any big problems against Chile, at the end they manage to get the biggest victory so far in this World Handball Championship. Chile manages to keep the pace for only first few minutes, after that it was only Spain. Spain coach Manuel Cadenas used this game to rest some of key players for the upcoming games against Slovenia and Qatar.

Belarus – Brazil 29-34(12-16)

Both of these teams enter into the game without any points, so winner of these game would probably have a great chance to take four and last spot that lead into the next round. Both teams had problems in attack at the start of the game, but Brazil had their wings while Belarus got a lot of problems with aggressive Brazilian defense. Brazilian wings Fabio, Chiuffa, Felipe Ribeiro and Lucas Candido scored 50% of Brazil goals in this game.  At halftime Brazil was leading 16-12 mostly thanks to their wings. In second half Belarus defense start playing more aggressively, but every time Belarus tried to do something Brazil wings calm them down. At the end Brazil manage to win and probably get the ticket for next round.

Slovenia – Qatar 29-31 (15-18)

in a good game Qatar manage to make a surprise and to beat Slovenia. With this win Qatar also take the ticket for the next round. In first half both teams were close until the last part of first half when Qatar manages to get themselves at +3 (18-15). In second half Qatar manage to keep the lead but Slovenia was always close behind them, in 36’ Jure Dolenec scored for 28-28. But soon after that Slovenia gets two minute suspension and Qatar manage to score three quick goals and get them third victory at World Handball Championship.

Group B:

  1. [Q] Croatia 3-0-0 +24

  2. [Q] Macedonia 3-0-0 +13

  3. Austria 1-1-1 0

  4. Bosnia and Herzegovina 1-0-2 0

  5. Tunisia 0-1-2 -11

  6. Iran 0-0-3 -26

Bosnia and Herzegovina – Macedonia 22-25 (11-13)

after they give a victory to Austria in last round Bosnia and Herzegovina need to win this game in order to get a chance for top spots in Group A. Bosnia and Herzegovina was behind during whole game, they were in the lead only two times in this game. During entire game Bosnia and Herzegovina was fighting, but Macedonia was always one or two goals in front. At the end Macedonia manage to keep two goals different and get them third victory.

Croatia – Iran 41-22 (19-13)

First game in this Championship that Croatia manage to play two good halftimes. Iran didn’t have any chances, Croatia quickly takes the lead and in 15’ it was already +6 for them. Iran starts better in second half and at one point they manage to get only to -3, but Croatia quickly replay and get themselves on +10. Until the end goal difference only extend for another Croatia victory.

Austria – Tunisia 25-25 (14-15)

Tunisia lost their first two games and they need a good score in this one to keep their hopes for next round. Austria lost to Croatia in first round but manage to beat Bosnia and Herzegovina in second round. In an excellent game both teams shown something. During entire game we didn’t see any big goal difference between them. If one side manages to get two goals difference other team would quickly score two goals to equal the score. Austria was closer to victory but one unlucky shot in last seconds costs them victory.

Group C:
20/01/2015 16:00 GMT – Czech Republic vs. Egypt

If Czech want to go into the next round they need to win in this game. Egypt needs two points to keep them in top part of the table for Group C.

20/01/2015 18:00 GMT – France vs. Iceland

France didn’t impress us in this WHC, but we didn’t expect them to impress us until the knock out phase. Iceland on other hand also disappointed us in first two games. We expect a good game with good defenses, but at the end France should not have any big problems.

20/01/2015 18:00 GMT – Sweden vs. Algeria

Leader of the group is playing against weakest nation, Sweden will probably rest some players in this game for the last two games against Egypt and France.

Group D:
20/01/2015 16:00 GMT – Poland vs. Russia

This will be important match for both of these teams, since the winner of these game might probably take the fourth place in Group D.

20/01/2015 16:00 GMT – Argentina vs. Saudi Arabia

After surprise draw in first round and thigh loss against Poland in second round, this should be test game for Argentina side. With two points from this game they should enter content the fourth (or maybe even third) place in this group.

20/01/2015 18:00 GMT – Denmark vs. Germany

With the game between Poland and Russia this is most interesting game on today schedule. Germany surprises everyone when they beat Poland in first round, in second they had a lot of problems against Russia but at the end they manage to take another two points. Denmark draws in first round against Argentina on surprise of everyone but in second they demolish Saudi Arabia with huge +20 goal difference. At the moment both of these teams are at the top of Group D, but only one team can be number one.
