The Italian Volleyball Serie A1 has brought us one more season of pure emotion and adrenaline pumping games – it has been unpredictable as usual and I don’t think that anyone who likes volleyball can complain about it. The team on top of the table is constantly changing, matches are being decided in tiebreaks and favorites are being shocked. However, there are still a couple of teams that stand from all the rest and are the biggest favorites to finish on first place when the regular season comes to an end. Those teams are Modena Volley and Energy T.I. Diatec Trentino.
At the present moment, both teams have won 13 times and lost only two, but Modena has a two point lead over Trentino. Before the last round, Trentino was ahead in the standings, however they suffered a defeat from the hands of Exprivia Neldiritto Molfetta with a 3-2 score. There are seven rounds remaining until the end of the regular season and Modena and Trentino have one more game to play between each other. That match on 22nd March can prove to be decisive if both teams continue winning at the same pace. However, that won’t be an easy job to do, as we know that every game is far from predictable. In the previous battles between the two squads this season, each team was able to get out with one win – Trentino won in the regular season game, while Modena defeated them in the Coppa Italia Final.
There are two months left until the end of the regular season and even though the first placed team won’t be the title holder, it is still a pretty important place to be when the playoffs come. Both Modena Volley and Energy T.I. Diatec Trentino will give their best to finish on the top spot, however only one of them will be able to do that. In my opinion that would be Modena.
