Copa del Rey: Torres does it again, but Barcelona gets away with the victory

Soccer News:

Barcelona eliminated Atletico Madrid in the quaterfinals in the Copa del Rey after a 3:2 win on the full “Vicente Calderon”. A week before this game, the team from Catalunya was able to get a 1:0 victory on “Camp Nou” which means that they will be moving on to the semifinals.

The battle in Madrid offered a very exciting first half, as all five goals were scored in it. The home team was able to get a one goal advantage twice, but an own-goal by Miranda and a goal from Neymar erased those leads. Fernando Torres was able to score in the first minute of the match, the same way he did against Real Madrid in the previous round of the tournament. However, this time Atletico had a more determined opponent that was ready to do anything in order to succeed. Furthermore, the team from Madrid played with a man less in the whole second half, as Gabi received a red card at half time. In the end of the match, Mario Suarez was also sent off the pitch.

Moreover, Atletico had a lot of problem before the match had even started – Diego Simeone wasn’t able to rely on three players, which are usually in the starting eleven, as they were penalized in their previous game – Diego Godin, Koke and Tiago Mendes. Their absence proved to be too much and the tradition of Atletico losing from Barcelona in the Copa del Rey was continued.

The first half was just a crazy spectacle, with both teams scorin goal after goals. The most notable goal was the one scored by Fernando Torres in the first minute – just in matter of a couple of weeks, the player that was thought to have lot his touch was able to score in the first 60 seconds against both Real Madrid and Barcelona. However, Atletico wasn’t able to maintain the lead and in the end the final score was 3:2 in favor of Barcelona. A big reason for the defeat came from the fact that Atletico had only 10 men on the pitch in the second half. Barcelona took advantage and the team is now looking forward to the semifinals.
