Austria – Qatar 27-29 (14-13)
Austria shown to be a thought challenge for Qatar squad, but at the end Qatar manage to beat them and go to quarterfinals. First half was mostly goal by goal and neither team could manage to make some big goal difference only Qatar manage to have two goals difference on two occasions in first half. Austria start better in second half and in 33’ they manage to have two goals difference, but Qatar manage to come back with 4 quick goals. Qatar manages to secure win in last five minutes of the game when they scored three quick goals that gives them three goals lead.
Slovenia – Macedonia 30-28 (16-15)
In Balkan derby Slovenia manage to beat Macedonia and to go into quarterfinals. Macedonia could only blame themselves for this lost, they had everything except concentration and luck in some key moment. Similar to Austria against Qatar game, first half was played goal by goal. It was half where best defense was the attack (31 goals in total).Second half was similar to first, only thing is that Macedonia start to make a lot more of technical errors, that gives Slovenia a chance to slow build their lead. And around 45’ Slovenia manages to get their three goals lead which they keep until the end. Macedonia got several chances to get back in the game completely, but like we already said they just made a lot of mistakes in this game.
Spain – Tunisia 28-20 (18-9)
only one-sided game today, Spain quickly gets the lead and in 6’ they already got 4 goals lead. Until the halftime there was little Tunisia could do to Spain team and goal difference only extend. At the halftime Spain got already huge nine goals difference. At the start of second half Spain even manage to get +11 but then they reduce their tempo and allow Tunisia to get back on -8. At the end easy win for Spain.
Croatia – Brazil 26-25 (13-15)
When we talk about this game we said if Croatia is not on their level it will be a hard game for them and it was a hard game. Croatia get first lead in the game but Brazil quick manage to come back and in 16’ they got their first lead in the game 9-8. But their lead didn’t last for long, Croatia turn the game in next two minutes and manage to get them another lead. End of game was deserved for Brazil and their goalkeeper who manage to save three penalty shots in last five minutes of first half. That gives Brazil a chance to get on two goals lead on halftime. Second half start furious from Croatia and in first seven minutes they made 5-0 and from -2 went to comfortable +3. But Brazil soon replays and in 44’ it was another draw 20-20. In last fifteen minutes both teams replaced each other in the lead. Two crucial moments of the game happened in last five minutes. First in 56′ we saw a nice solo action from Karacic that give Croatia one goal lead and then in last minutes another great shot by Duvnjak secure that secure Croatia win.
In quarterfinals Qatar is waiting for a winner between Germany and Egypt, Slovenia will face the winner of France and Argentina, Spain will go against winner of Iceland versus Denmark and Croatia will face against Poland or Sweden.
