It has been an extremely difficult period for Pakistan Cricket. Back to back injuries have served a huge dent on their preparations for the Cricket World Cup 2015. With every day passing, a new player is getting injured making the situation worse for the Cricket Board as well as Selectors. It all started from a ban imposed on Saeed Ajmal’s bowling action in October. Ever since, repetition of bad news has surrounded the Pakistan Cricket Team. First Umar Gul was declared unfit for the Mega Event, then Mohammad Hafeez was stopped from bowling due to his dubious bowling action. And now, another key weapon in Pakistan’ Arsenal has been stained.
Junaid Khan, who managed to appear in just 6 ODIs in last 12 months due to severe injury concerns, has once again became a victim of his bad luck. The 25 year old was selected for the World Cup Squad, after recovering from his injury problems. But just before the start of the Cricket World Cup, Junaid Khan has injured himself once again.
The left handed Fast bowler slipped in a training session last week at Gadaffi Stadium of Lahore. During that process, Junaid hurt his hamstring badly. It was a worse news for Misbah XI who are already injury hit and taking two rookies with them in the World Cup Squad. Junaid has been the spearhead of Pakistan Bowling attack for 2-3 years now, but after the results of an MRI scan conducted on his hamstring, the 25 year old FATA born player has been ruled out for the New Zealand tour.
Pakistan will play two ODIs with the Kiwis, starting from the end of this month to make preparations for the World Cup. But as it seems now, its’ more a mission of staying fit for team Pakistan instead of any other preparation before the Cricket World Cup which is going to take place next month in Australia and New Zealand.
But still there is hope in the PCB camp that Junaid Khan can recover from his injury in time to appear for the Green Shirts in the Mega Event. Until then, Bilawal Bhatti has been included in place as Pakistan Cricket Team departs for New Zealand later today.
